I'm not sure he is able to admit anything, at least that a court would recognize. A judge would surely throw out any confessions made by HarD-DVD.

I doubt sony is going to let MS and nintendo get that big of a head start with the next-gen consoles...

Just a side note.. the Wii is still outselling the 360 and PS3 combined meaning that a headstart won't help Sony unless they have a product everyone would want and is priced right. Just go and try to find a Wii on a shelf most anywhere... have to pre-order the thing.. still!

The big question is whether sony will drop PS3 price this year. It is expected M$ to drop 360's price, possibly at E3 this year.

I think we're at a nice point personall, where the consoles will all really have the most made out of them this gen. I can certainly see it being far longer than last gen.

I'm looking forward to the casual approach Microsoft is going to try later this year, I actually love the quiz/karaoke/party games etc that you can play with a few friends and family round and a decent supply of alcohol.

I think its safe to conclude that nintendo has won this generation and PS3 won't come close to selling 100 million after this gen has ended.

I would think if MS does drop the 360 price it will cause Sony to make an adjustment as well. Maybe not right away, but in time for the holidays.

But, I don't think it's just a price drop that MS has in mind. I think it's also going to include a sku re-alignment. One that includes an included BD drive at the current highest price.

I honestly don't understand the business model of taking huge losses in game consoles in the hopes of making up for it later. You can't even call it an investment, it's more like gambling. Sure, it could pay off big, but it could also kill your company, like it ultimately killed Atari and Sega. Nintendo is doing it right.

Atari and Sega didn't work off the "loss" model. Sony introduced that with the PS1. It was game and hardware development costs and not recouping initial outlays that killed Sega and Atari. Have you seen all the crap atari made to go with the Jaguar?

Sega's main issue was similar with the Dreamcast, they weren't selling enough software in the end to recoup losses and it was at the time their arcade business just suddenly slumped too. The final nail in the coffin was when the DC was cracked and it didn't even require a chip to play pirate games. Software sales utterly plummeted literally the week the Utopia boot disc was released which was around the time Dead or Alive 2 was released.

The other issue Sega had, was that they just couldn't compete with a console that was being sold at a loss. This caused their problems on the Saturn in the West. Sony subsidised their hardware, Sega didn't. They were fairly similar specced consoles, but the PS1 was £299 and the Saturn was £399. When they were putting out pretty much the same product, it becomes clear why most consumers opted for the PS1.

The big difference for Microsoft and Sony that allows them to operate on the "risky" sell at a loss strategy, is that their core business wasn't just console videogames. So if something is taking a loss, there are other divisions to prop it up through that rough patch. With Microsofts questionable motives for being in the games industry probably worth every single penny it's cost them so far. I honestly believe the Xbox 360 even ever breaking even is a bonus for Microsoft.

Thanks for writing all that out.

That just tells me that consoles are a dumb business.

I don't see M$ including BD in 360 since BD drive cost is too high and the average consumer does not care about HDM. But they do care about price. PS3 and 360 are still priced too high for casual gamers.

You know, the 360 is the same price as a Wii over here. Food for though on the price/casual gamers thing.

There is NO such business model. Don't let the Sony clones tell you that they intended to lose $5 Billion dollars before making money. Look at the Wii, that was how the PS3 was supposed to sell.

This reject of a machine-PS3, is sold at $400 (originally $500-600) so it can play PS2 games? LMAOOO!!! Yea, dont let the Sony clones fool you again here. The PS3 games was supposed to be so good, that nobody should ever even talk about enjoying last generations' games. What a disaster and false that turned out to be.

Now 4 years from now, imagine if Sony was pitching the idea that the PS4 will come out and initially selling $600 so you can play PS3 games, and that they will offer no impressive PS4 titles for the first 2-3 years. What the hell do you think would happen?- I'll tell you, --The fanboys would have rioted and lynched some Sony execs. So how did they managed to pull a fast one on most of us this time around with the BBQ grill PS3????????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and yet we take it in the ass happily for Sony. ie. awol. Only the Sony sheeples are to blame for this. Blind people unlike a cult. ie. awol

Would you purchase this POS again in another 4-5 years. HELL NO!! This is why I think that there will be no PS4, it is a dead franchise.

and..........................Anybody who bought the PS3 and brags that they use it to play PS2 games is a fucking Tard and basically the ultimate definition of a tool. ie. awol

You're an idiot.

MGS4 got the highest scores possible from just about every reviewer in the world. Not to mention GTA4, Orange Box, Call of Duty 4, Gran Turismo 5 etc etc etc.

Sad about the CampaignHD newsletters not coming anymore?
