Default Rumor: MGM Readying Bond Titles for Blu-ray Release?

From HDD:

UPDATE: (6/05/08, 1:30pm ET) According to late word from Fox France, 'Goldeneye' and 'Tomorrow Never Dies' will not be among their first six Bond BD releases. Instead, they've been replaced by 'From Russia with Love' and 'For Your Eyes Only.' We've updated the titles listed in the post below accordingly.

The French release of six Bond flicks on Blu-ray this November has hopes high that the same films may find their way to US store shelves before Christmas.

The French website filmsactu.com is reporting today that MGM (via its parent distributor Fox) will release a half-dozen Bond titles on Blu-ray in France on November 5, 2008. The six flicks are reported to be 'Dr No,' 'Thunderball,' 'Live or Let Die,' 'From Russia With Love,' 'Die Another Day' and 'For Your Eyes Only.'

As for the fourteen other unreleased Bond titles ('Casino Royale' is the only 007 flick currently available on Blu-ray), rumor has it that they're planned for release concurrent with the BD release of 'Quantum of Solace,' sometime in the first half of 2009.

Though the French release of these titles doesn't necessarily mean they will also hit shelves stateside, generally Fox/MGM's release of such tentpole titles in France happens concurrently with (or is preceded by) a US release, heightening expectations that a US announcement could be on its way.

Now that would be sweet. I'd love to have all the Connery, Moore, and, Bronson Bond films.

Let's see Never Say Never Again on Blu-ray. Come on Warner, you guys love Blu-ray, right?

Am I alone in saying that Pierce Brosnan was an awesome Bond? The movies he was in were weak, but I thought Die Another Day was really cool.

But all of that is moot, because Daniel Craig is the perfect, ultimate Bond.

I have to be honest, the Connery/Lazenby/Moore bonds are hard for me to get into, because they're so dated. Some of them are fun, but... eh. And Timothy Dalton was a good Bond, but the movies he was in were re-tard-ed.

Oh my god, Goldfinger was stupid. I just saw it for the first time a few months ago. That's the one where the villain tried to radioactively contaminate all the gold in Fort Knox, right? And had Pussy Galore? BAHAHAHA....

Come on, man! This is old Bond stuff. It's supposed to be cheesy and dumb. It just doesn't make sense to skip right over Goldfinger when you've got Dr. No, From Russia with Love, and Thunderball in the set.... especially when Goldfinger is the best of the 4.

Thunderball wasn't bad. And the blatant remake, Never Say Never Again, wasn't bad either. I don't care if NSNA wasn't "official".

Sure it does . . .

That Aston Martin! . . .

And one of THE classic movie lines of all time . . .

"Do you expect me to talk Goldfinger?"

"No Mr. Bond . . . I expect you to DIE!"

For me, Brosnan is the definitive Bond, and I enjoyed every Bond film he was in am quite gutted that Goldeneye etc won't be the first BD "retro" bonds, however I think Daniel Craig is really really... wrong for James Bond :/ Here in the UK I am also far from in the minority with that thought.

Craig or Brosnan? I dunno... Craig just isn't "toff" like all the other Bonds, and it doesn't seem right.

You mean that 'smug' look.
You cant go too far with that. Timothy dalton had it in spades and he was just horrible.
