How was Black Christmas? Reviews said the movie was terrible but AQ and PQ got decent ratings, and I heard Christmas Vacation had awful PQ, what do you think?

I like your list glow but alas I prefer the original Black Christmas to the new one and Christmas Vacation is a holiday staple around our house adults only viewing though as I do not believe my children should bve subjected to the language throughout this movie.

For us it is The Grinch (HD DVD)
Rudolph (SD DVD)
The year there was no santaclause(SD DVD)
Baby New Year (SD DVD)
Christmas Vacation (HD DVD)
The Muppet Christmas Carol (SD DVD)

4 kids at home 11, 6, 5 and 6 months old.

The remake of Black Christmas (the only one available in HD) was terrible. If you can go seek out the original Black Christmas from 1974 and upscale it on your HD DVD player, it's a cult classic, and surprisingly was directed by the same guy that did A Christmas Story. Despite being awful, the PQ on the HD DVD is quite nice. Black levels are solid and that's important for a movie like this where many scenes are in almost total darkness.

Christmas Vacation was a pretty good movie, some very funny moments, but the PQ was only a notch above DVD quality IIRC.

Since you mentioned standard DVD's, I'll mention some good ones that everyone can upscale with their HD DVD/Blu-ray players. They're all full frame 1.33:1 but eh..

-Miracle on 34th Street
-It's a Wonderful Life
-A Bing Crosby Christmas

Also, there's 2 Disney Christmas-themed DVD's: Holiday Celebration and Holiday Stories that contain classic Disney holiday cartoons, including the classic Mickey's Christmas Carol. Highly recommended, especially if you have kids or appreciate the golden-age of animation.

Is the HD transfer good enough to buy it? Reviews seem to peg it as mediocre, so I'm wondering if I get anything over the SD version.
