PlayStation 3 Comeback Predicted For 2008
Tuesday, Dec 18, 2007 7:30 AM ET

2007 MAY BE THE YEAR of the Nintendo Wii, but Sony's PlayStation 3 will make a comeback in 2008, predicts U.K.-based media research firm Screen Digest. Sony's pipeline of exclusive content and shift away from console games to online and digital distribution will give the PlayStation a big boost in 2008, according to Piers Harding-Rolls, Screen Digest's senior games analyst.
"One of the market shifts to watch out for in 2008 will be the continued evolution of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 from games consoles to multi-media hubs," said Harding-Rolls in a year-end games forecast issued Monday.

That's next year. For now, the Wii remains the top searched-for product this holiday season, according to data released last week by Hitwise.

Also, it's amazing how Sony continues to ignore the PS3 as a game console. How about focusing on giving the majority of the people who bought the PS3 the games they want and expected?

If you bought a PS3 for gaming, well, you're a tool. This thread also has nothing to do with HDM.

GLOW Again, what games does the PS3 have? Everytime I check GameStop, the games for the Wii and 360 lead and only a smattering of PS3 games. Why can't you admit that your beloved is getting it's ASS kicked as a game console? Sony was foolish and put BD ahead of what made them TONS of $$.. was the risk worth it? We'll see.

Love how people add in non-exclusives in order to fill their lists so that it appears to be worth owning.

Now minus those and the mediocre titles and you're left with hardly any must owns. None of those games are system sellers.

Then again, what do I care? As a 360 owner, all the once exclusive Playstation titles that I cared about are currently available with others coming soon to the box.

Just another sign that Sony cares more about HDM this generation, enough to let the heavy hitters get away.

Sorry, the PS3 doesn't have Barbie's Horse Adventures or whatever fruity games you like to play on your 360.

The 360 and Wii games list is miles ahead of the PS3 and we all know it. That's why they both outsell the PS3 by some margin.

That's true, for the 360. The Wii's line-up is pathetic. There are maybe 10 good games out for it.

The PS3 is by far the most superior console wrt hardware and features.

I agree. XBOX 360 in 2008 will sell like MAD. And MS should have massive promo's for the HD DVD add-on too

Features? Minus the Blu Ray and Sony is playing catch up with the 360.

Superior? Didn't know obsolete 7800 series GPU's are superior to current gen GPU's as in the 360's.

Misinformed and choking on the hype.

You are the one that's misinformed. The 360 isn't wireless, HDD isn't able to be upgraded with a 3rd party HDD, no mandatory HDD even, charges $50 a year for online that isn't even worth the cost of admission. Not to mention that 360's have the highest failure rate of any console (or any CE device period). Hardware-wise, the 360 is a complete and utter failure.

If over 10 million units sold for XBOX360 is called an utter failure.... then what does that make your PS3 which has sold under half that?

There's always going to be failures out there. Now the ratio between REPORTED and UNKNOWN we haven't a clue. We go by what media tells us. I know the 360 had some issues in the beginning but it's been getting better.

I don't see how the PS3 is gonna suddenly boom next year. It's had a year to try and gain momentum but it still just sits on the shelves wherever I go and I know it's not because of larger quantities in stock. I still see Guitar Hero 3 sitting out like it's some failure piece of garbage. However it's selling out everywhere in both Wii and XBOX360. Seems like a pretty good success to me!
