Default HD VMD release list?

So I decided to wander over to their New Medium Enterprises website to check out the HD VMD format. Just for shits and giggles because I figured honestly how much support could a third HD format possibly get?

Well if I am to believe the website they have a bunch of movies on their release list coming:

* Hostage
* We Were Soldiers
* Apocalypto
* Lucky Number Slevin
* Valiant
* Saw II
* Saw III
* Lord of War
* Fireplace & Aquarium
* The Ark
* Help I'm A Fish
* El Cid
* Mid Summer Dream
* Passion of The Christ
* Angeles Ashes
* Babel
* 16 Blocks
* Set up
* Hoodwinked
* Oliver Twist
* Princesse
* La Planete Blanche
* Pulp Fiction
* Sahara
* Demande A La Poussiere
* Gosford Park
* The Descent
* Miss Potter
* The Queen
* Butterfly Effect 1
* Butterfly Effect 2
* Hitcher
* Black Sheep
* Lord of the Rings
* Diario De Um Novo Mundo
* Inside Out
* Avion
* Welcome to LazyTown
* Dr. Rottenstein
* Hero for a Day
* Defeated
* Rottenbeard
* Cry Dinosaur
* Secret Agent Zero
* Sleepless in LazyTown
* Happy Brush Day
* Pixelspix
* LazyTown’s New Super Hero
* Sports Day
* Crystal Caper
* Lazy Scouts
* My Treehouse
* Swiped Sweets
* Sportafake
* The Laziest Town
* Soccer Sucker
* Dear Diary
* Miss Roberta
* Sports Candy Festival
* Remote Control
* Sportacus Who?
* Zap it
* Records Day
* Ziggy’s Alien
* Play Day
* Prince Stingy
* Robbie’s Greatest Misses
* Dancing Duel
* LazyTown’s Greatest Hits
* Sportacus on the Move!
* LazyTown’s Surprise Santa
* Sailor et lula
* Scorpion
* Le caïman
* Spy kids
* Scarie movie 2
* Les chansons d'amour
* Khakar Khakar
* Alaipayuthey
* Pammal K Sambantham
* Panchathanthiram
* Ghilli
* Boys
* Kandukondain Kandukondain
* Water
* Bheja Fry
* Bridge to Tarabitha
* Hanuman
* Malamal Weekly
* Constant Gardner
* Jo Jeeta Wohli Sikander
* Page 3
* Parzania
* Iqbal
* China Town
* Sholay
* Andaz Apana Apna
* Hum Aapke Hai Kaun
* Padosan
* Maine Pyaar Kiya
* Kashmir Ki Kali
* Pyaasa
* Sapoot
* International only
* Khanna & Iyer
* Inquilab
* Namak Haram
* Dil Ek Mandir

Now I am not sure if this is exact, like I said I pulled it form their "HD VMD Content Library" list. However, if you'll take a look you'll notice that there are some on that list that HD DVD and BD doesn;t even have yet including Lord of the Rings. Although it doesn't specifically state which ones, it could very well be the cartoon version. I also realize the difference between announcing and releasing. . .

Despite all that the list is impressive for a third party HD format.

EDIT: Forgot to add the NME website:http://www.nmeinc.com/

I'll tell you if they managed to secure the rights to release the 93 restoration of El Cid, I may have to look seriously at one of these players.

Stonking lineup it has to be said. Id seriously look into the format if they managed that i mean the rrp for the films is like half the price of HD DVD or Blu Ray

The list does look impressive, but I really think they are too late in the game unless the players costs $99 & the movies costs less then regular DVD's. This is the only way to success IMO.

The players cost $149, and the movies cost $3 or so more than normal DVDs.

The players, themselves, look very nice.

I must say this may be a viable option for me in the future if the releases get pretty good. For a side/guest room of course.

I just hope they do not get ANY exclusive movie studio support. Then I would have to own THREE HD players (for each of 5 rooms) and that would be UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Exclusive major Hollywood support?

I seriously doubt it. Exclusive indy-support. . . likely, hell I think they may even already have some.

My girlfriend LOVES that show. . .

Don't ask me why. Although I gotta say the anti-American humour within that show is funny. The mian bad guy IS from Texas after all.

If a major studio goes exclusive to this format I will stop buying HD movies until there is only ONE to choose. Enough is enough!

So is HD VMD physically and mechanically compatible with regular DVD? Could a regular DVD player be reporgrammed to play these discs? (if it had 1080p, HDMI, etc)

What I'm driving at is, we're already going to get dual format players for Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Are we talking about a trivial effort to make these triple format players?

I know you made some of those titles up. Cry Dinosaur?

Anyway, every video game console cycle brings with it some kooky little competitor that has no hope of going anywhere (Nuon, 3D0, CD-i, Jaguar, PS3) and occasionally they get some respectable titles and are fun to have around since they aren't a "threat" to your favorite real consoles.

I guess this is the home video industry's answer to the likes of Nuon.

I doubt it will have even CED levels of success.
