That's right. It hasn't been pretty, and I think it'll get worse before it gets better.

Yep. I see no reason for it to get better. Just came home from Fred Meyer. It was packed. The electronics section had like 20 people in it and not one was even looking at movies. There were about a half dozen in the video games section buying kinect games and PSP games.

You mention the video games section and also Blu ray being flat YOY, so we're video games last month...

U.S. video game sales in November remained flat at $3 billion, compared with November 2010, according to The NPD Group.

A software sales bump (up 16% to $1.74 billion) was offset by drops in hardware (down 9% to $982.4 million) and accessories (down 34% to $273.8 million).

“While content sales grew substantially thanks to a great slate of new content, a decline in average retail price in all categories with the exception of portable hardware resulted in flat dollar sales, even though unit sales grew for console hardware, as well as console, portable and PC software,” said The NPD Group's Anita Frazier. “New physical retail sales are likely to end December in the range of flat to down 3% in dollar sales based on historical seasonality trends.”

The Xbox 360 was the top-selling game console for the fourth consecutive month. The top games of November were Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (360, PS3, Wii, PC), followed by Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (360, PS3, PC) and Battlefield 3 (360, PS3, PC).

Game sales grew but revenue because of cheaper prices was flat. Reminds me of Blu Ray kinda!?

I would also like to add that video game sales were down nine months this year up until the 4th qtr.

Ummm.... No.

Gaming software revenue was up: (up 16% to $1.74 billion)

The pricing you are talking about was on the hardware and accessories side. And something tells me that Blu-ray likely suffered a higher percentage price erosion than consoles on hardware unit pricing.

Not only that, Tower convienently ignores the digital software revenue in gaming wich is growing by leaps and bounds and is not even counted in those revenue numbers.

READ SLOWLY. DIGITAL VIDEO GAME SALES ARE NOT COUNTED IN THE MONTHLY NUMBERS!!! Those numbers you use are not counting the digital sales wich are up huge. They are getting close to the physical sales numbers. Do you understand this at all?

BTW I am talking about video games as well. That includes digital sales of said video games wich is getting pretty damn big. Steam is not counted in the monthly gaming numbers as well xbox live sales and the sony online game store.

I don't understand why you continue down this road like Kosty does. I guess you have to ignore the facts to try and win a debate. Fine with me if you want to, but I am not here to win a debate. I am here to expose the false info your putting out and it disgusts me. You obviously know little about gaming and want to ignore the digital video game sales that are not counted in your numbers your providing. How come you dont want people to know that the digital sales of video games is expected to overtake the physical discs in two years?

Do you have a link indicating just how HUGE these numbers are? All I have read in the media is how 9 out of the past 12 months video game sales have been down. Have not seen any articles talking about digital sales, sorry. If you could provide links to a news story it would help clear that up for me.

I am talking about games that are played on the big three boxes. Again you mention Steam. Isnt that for the computer PC system? Or can that be played on a video game box?

Again show me some solid REAL numbers. The article you posted here is just a speculation on what MAY occur in the future. We have seen many of these before in the past for many things and they end up usually being WRONG (example: Blu Ray outselling DVD by 2010...Did not happen).

I can post some real numbers from this year for you:

Video game sales drop 6 percent in September

Quote:
U.S. retail video game sales can’t seem to get out of their summer funk. In September, the trend continued as overall retail game sales fell 6 percent from a year ago, according to market researcher NPD Group.
Oh and here is something to chew on, lets also throw in PC game sales, guess what, the total is still down for September 2011 as well...

Quote:
If you throw in the sales of PC, console and portable games, the total is $662.1 million, down 1 percent from $653.2 million a year ago. That still means PC sales have been weak.
http://venturebeat.com/2011/10/13/vi...-in-september/

Non council games sales the type you are talking about are currently up (they call them other sales, lumped together with the leftovers) but the figures I could find also include used games, rentals, online games, social games.

Quote:
Of course, the numbers are only retail sales and don’t count other digital sales. Those other sales – including used games, rentals, online games, mobile games and social games — show constant growth.

A few other recent months...

Retail video game sales plunge 23 percent in August
http://venturebeat.com/2011/09/08/re...ent-in-august/

July retail video game sales drop 26 percent, worst month since 2006
http://venturebeat.com/2011/08/11/ju...st-since-2006/

I will just agree that I disagree with your assessment. Now off to the Christmas feast If your of age for a pint...Cheers!

Um, there is quite a difference between selling FULL games digitally versus selling skins and add on packs.

What is the comparison of FULL video games with respect to digital vs physical?

I mean, isn't most digital video game $$ due to $.99 iPhone apps and console map packs? Not full games like on physical media.

I'm sorry, but Angry Birds is not the same as Batman Arkham City.

You're right - the $1 Angry Birds has way more replay ability than the $60 Batman game...
