Arrow Connect MP3 Player to TV?

It seems easy, but it's not: I want to play my MP3 music on my TV's speakers.

I have a cord with one end that plugs into my MP3 player's headphone jack, and the other end has both a red and white male connection to plug into the TV.

When I use this cable to connect my MP3 to the TV, no sound comes out.

Yes, I've toggled the TV to the appropriate input (e.g. "input 1"), ensured the speakers on input 1 are active (this is an option with my TV), that mute is off, the MP3 player is working, and the MP3 volume is cranked up.

It seems that a video (yellow) signal is required before my TV will play any audio.

(Anyone with another TV want to confirm this: have your video game console running, and then unplug the yellow, but not the red & white... does the sound also cut out with the picture?)

I have a Panasonic 37" 1080p LCD TV (model TC-37LZ85).

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Or how to disable this "feature" on my TV?
Or know of a device that will generate a yellow signal? (I'm thinking of those Atari emulators that are house in a 80's joystick & cost $10.. but something smaller ideally).

And no, I don't want to buy external speakers or use a stereo.

Thank you!!

Hey Andy...you're not going to have much luck...I may be safe in saying that there are no HDTV's made yet with that capability, I found out. Which lead me to buy the WD-TV Media Player, I got it for $100 bucks. So it works with an external hard drive. And what I did was transfer my MP3 music on to the hard drive and connected it to the WD-TV Media Player and through HDMI to my HDTV. I also transfered movies on to the drive and I was amazed that I'm watching a 720P video on my 1080P with great clarity. It recognizes various video and audio formats. Good Luck.

Most every TV these days will require a video signal on the yellow connection in order to enable the TV input. That's just the way they work these days. You could find an old VCR and hook up the video connection to feed a junk signal (snow) into the TV.

Or you could get a WD media player that will feed a video signal and play your mp3s. They run about $100. See: Western Digital TV HD Media Player

In addition to playing your mp3s, it will display photos and play video from a USB stick or a USB hard drive.

Default thanks for both the replies

I like the idea of a "dummy" yellow video signal... wonder if there isn't a smaller device than a VCR that I could use to provide this signal.

Thanks also for the WD product recommendation... looks nice, but I'm trying to avoid buying another device at this point.

Any other ideas are quite welcome.

Thanks again.
