You are lucky.

I ordered firmware update for my A-3 and was told the item was on "backorder".

Great news! Toshiba mailed me the firmware update for
my A-3. I'll open this package up today and start the upgrade. I hope I don't have any problems. About time I upgrade my current 1.1 version.

Thank you Toshiba for mailing the 2.0 upgrade.
I went through the process this morning. Worked just fine.
Took about 10 minutes or so.

My CD writer bit the dust and I just used the internet method to update a player for the first time. New firmware updates are out now for some players including version 3.0 correcting the bad 2.8 for the XA2. The file to write to disc isn't available yet at the Toshiba site even if my CD writer wasn't dead so this thread is much appreciated. I couldn't get connected to the internet by guessing on settings so the great first post from MidnightWatche is much appreciated.

The reports are now that HD-XA2 version 3.0 doesn't correct 2.8, so stick with 2.7 is the advice I am reading.

Chris
I neve did 2.8 because of the problems I read about. Still have 2.7.
And 3.0 has problems too? Oh well. Onkyo is my main player anyway. And it has played flawlessly so far. Lip sync issues are gone with everything set to 1080p/24.

When is the next update coming out for the HD-A20? The last one was 2.8, and that was like forever ago!

I am running 2.8 on both of my A2s and am yet to have any problems since that update. Should I update to 4.0 or just not worry about it?

My HD-A2 is still at 2.8. Do I need to do the 3.0 before doing 4.0?

BTW, thanks for the links.

The best rule of thumb is IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. If your player is working fine, leave it alone. Sometimes firmware updates can cause problems and if your unit is working fine, why chance adding problems.

No, the firmware updates are cumulative but read the preceding reply.
