Default Am I missing something.

I just received my A35 and confirmed it is setup with the 1.1 software. I downloaded the 1.3 update in the Zip file format from the Toshiba website and saved it on my C drive as a Zip file. I then extracted the files from the Zip folder and saved the extracted files to another folder on the C drive. I then downloaded Deepburner and burned the single extracted file to a CD-R at 4X speed as an ISO file/image just as the instructions in the thread specify.

Everything seemed fine so I popped the CD-R disc into the A35. "Loading" changing to "Ver Up" on the player display and "Do you want to update the version?" appears on my monitor screen. Everything correct so far. When I click "OK" to execute "Yes", I get the "Can not find server" message.

Anyone know what I have done wrong or what is happening? I tried this three times with the same result. On the first two tries, all Ethernet settings were set to off (I'm not using the Internet to do this so those settings should be off, right?). I tried a third time with DHCP turned to "On" and got the same result.

Any help is appreciated.

http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/hddvd/ and click on the "support" button up top and you will be given a list of the newest updates for all the HD DVD players. Here you can either choose to download the file and burn it on a cd or try the internet connection. I've come to find out the players have their quirks sometimes and maybe it was just congestion from all the new HDDVD owners. All I had to do was enable my DHCP and DNS then click "confirm", shut down then power up again and my internet connection was fine. Hope this helps.
yes I know the latest is 1.3 but what I'm asking is when the version is displayed under setup and it shows 1.3/1.1, which number represents the current installed firmware on the device?

I would suggest that everyone with a HD DVD player download the firmware to their computers and burn an image of all the versions they can for ALL HD DVD players as a backup plan.

Even if you do not have a particular model, you MAY decide to get another player if the price is low enough as a backup player for your HD DVD movies.

Not trying to spell doom and gloom here but to help owners.

If you are signed up with Toshiba for updates you can also get back ups that way.
I use the ethernet exclusively for firmware updates, but still get a disk from Tosh (about 5 weeks later).

I am on their list but have not got an update since 1.3 for the HD-A1 for some reason.

I think if people are thinking about getting a "backup" HD DVD player to play all the HD DVD discs they bought then they might want to get the firmware updates for ALL available players as they might never know WHICH said "backup" HD DVD player they might run across for a great deal later.

That was what I was trying to convey to other owners.

I downloaded the free version of Deepburner and it only gives me the option of Full or 24x for the burning speed. I cannot select 4x speed. Am I missing something or have they changed the program? I have never burned a CD before so maybe I am missing something.. Any advice??

Finally kept at it and got my A20 from software 1.0 to 2.8 last night. For some reason it will not download updates through my hardwire ethernet connection. I removed my router and plugged the A20 directly into the cable modem and it started to update. There must be a port that is not forwarding or open in my router. It is set for DHCP and is getting a good address now (192.168.1.129) and will see if it is able to pick up future updates online.

Do you have a CD Burner or a DVD burner? If the latter, that is why.
