Actually it will not work with a DVD, so you MUST use a CD-R disc to burn the image file.

Thanks, that did the trick. Its finally working

You know if they want to sell these things to the masses they need to make it easier.

I agree...

Auto downloads. They should let you know when it is coming out and then you hook your Ethernet cable in and it auto downloads it in the middle of the night.

1. What are you talking about?

2. Are you asking what is the easiest way to update the firmware?

Easiest: Connect your Ethernet cable to the player and go to General, Maintenance, Update. Click ok and go through the instructions.

Easier: Download the Firmware update and burn it to a CD-R, and put that into the HD DVD player and install the update this way.

Easy: Call Toshiba and ask them to send you a firmware update disc.

3. To get the best picture possible you should not just ask for setting preferences because everyone is different. Purchase DVE, AVIA, Etc... calibration DVD's and go through the program and set it up to your specs.

I just bought the HD-A3 at BB plus the 10 free movies for $212 When I try to update it says 1.1/1.1. Then it says firmware already downloaded. Do i need the 1.5 or higher you all are talking about?

1.1 is the latest firmware for the A3, so you're good.

Just make sure you burn it as an IMAGE file. This is VERY important!
Thanks for the info. You have NO IDEA how many times I tried to figure this out. Thanks again

Do any of you guys know what I am supposed to do with the zip file I got from Tosh for the A2? A guy at work asked me to get the file for him, so I d/l'd the A2 firmware file, unzipped it, then there is .RAR file left in the folder. I don't have WinRAR and don't want to have to buy the software just for this. SHouldn't there be a .iso fiile that I need to burn to a CD as an image? Thanks in advance

Download the A2 firmware on the OP (.ZIP file), extract it. There should be a large .ISO file. That is what you'll need to burn on a CD as an image. The other files are not required.

Btw, WinRAR is free (http://www.rarsoft.com)

I am not having any luck with the d/l I got from Toshiba. The iso files comes up as a .rar file. When I try to burn it, I get an error saying that th efile is too big for the cd. What a pain!

It sounds like a damaged download. Try downloading it again. If that also has a problem just go to the Canadian Toshiba site and download it from there.

I did this before when the USA site had a corrupt image file on there site before. Here is the Canadian site:

Good luck!
