My guess is there is an assload of people trying to do this update. The server is probably overloaded right now.

There are probably a lot of people trying to get the update right now and could possibly be slowing down the server.

If the IP and DNS numbers are popping up automatically then you have a dynamic- meaning your service provider automatically assigns you an IP. Static is a designated IP that you always use- not many people have this.. With that said, if the IP and DNS #'s are in fact popping up- then your connection is working, but the server with the updates is laggy. Just keep trying.
Thanks for the extra info, always helpful.

Anyways it is updating 20/36 currently.

I did download the firmware update which was mega huge coming through a wireless connection since my 360 and new HD DVD player use the Ethernet cable. So just encase this doesn't work I can do it the other way.
That is WHY I stated in my instructions to turn the player off then back on after setting the network settings. I even said it was important.

You should be good to go now, and if the server is real busy you might want to do it late at night when it might be slower. It sounds like a lot of new owners are updating at the same time.

Make sure you NEVER update the player with a disk in the tray. It could break your player. I found this was a common reason for people having trouble last year and Toshiba then started instructing people to remove ANY discs in the player if updating via the ethernet connection.

If you are already in the process of updating and a disc IS in the tray, just make sure when you power it back up you do so by hitting the OPEN button instead of the power button. That will save you.

Enjoy!

Yea I tought of that too, but I just did both of mine rite before he did, and had no connection issues at all . My guess was the the assload would really start about after 5:00, when many people get off work.. Anyway, glad your upand running.. Both of you.

This may be a dumb question so take it wasy on me.
I downloaded the update and put it on a disk cd-rw. I put it in the dvd player and the player says this is not a dvd. Did I need to burn a copy of the download to a dvd?

I believe I stated turning the machine off in my instructions too. I wish the Mods would make a sticky for this issue. It can be a very frustrating thing when the player won't connect and not everyone is network savvy.

You need to use a CD-R disc AND burn it as an image file not just a straight burn of data. Your burning software should have a menu choice to burn an image file. This is HOW you must burn the ISO download.

Hope this helps!

No, you can use a regular CD ROM. Did you burn the ISO as an image and not just as a data CD?
