Man that sucks, but at least it is within the 30 day exchange period. You have to look at the silver lining I always say.

Since you KNOW how well your display does interlacing, you might want to consider just getting the HD-A2 model and save yourself $100.00 while you are at it.

Good luck!

Good for you. At least you get SOMETHING for your troubles.

When you try the update again, make sure you do not have a disc in the tray when using the Ethernet update method if that is what you did before.

This is very important and it was something I noticed as a pattern happening and posted as much over at AVS way back in fall 2006. We started a thread when someone else noticed this same pattern also.

Toshiba has actually listed that in their instructions now, so it appears to be as important as I thought it was.

Also, when you try the 1080p output again, also make sure you have the setting on AUTO where you have the choice of FILM, VIDEO, or AUTO. This will engage the 3:2 pulldown in the player which might help! Others have reported that if you use a progressive source without FILM or AUTO mode, it can screw up the PQ.

Yeah I did everything you said I'm updating now but I think this one was manufactured before my last one because it has firmware 1.0 and I think my last had 1.1 when I put it on but whatever...

well, happy to report my 2nd A20 updated succesfully the first shot this time around and Heroes disc 5 works perfectly, and 1080p still looks like crap...eh... whatever keep it on 1080i...but like I said if the new players come out before October 13th I'll just exchange my A20 for one of those because I now have another 30 days from today after the return...

Is it me, or does BB never have HD-DVD players in stock? What's going to happen this holiday when demand for HD-DVD players sky rocket? Even now when I follow my friend to the local BB(I don't shop at BB anymore), I always go straight to their DVD player section and they are ALWAYS out of stock on HD-DVD players. It almost makes me wonder........

I think in the past BB has favored BD over HD DVD and the policy has been to push BD players so they might have kept stock of HD DVD players low because they were pushing BD. It appears from various accounts across the country that this is changing now.

Toshiba is also transitioning to a new 3G model line so I imagine stores will be stocking up on the new model instead of the old model.

Lets HOPE Toshiba learned a lesson from last year.
