Default HDMI Cable Versus 6 Analog Cables

I have no HDMI plug-ins on my receiver. So I have 6 analog (5 speaker and 1 subwoofer) cables running from my Toshiba XA-2 to the external inputs of my Yamaha DSP-A1 receiver. This gives me DD+ and Dolby TrueHD, which both sound amazing.
My question is- does anyone know if the analog cables degrade the sound. Or am I getting the exact same sound as I would be thru an HDMI cable.
The reason I as is I read from HDMI.org this snippet:

"Analog will be lower quality than HDMI due to two reasons: 1) the nature of analog transmission is lossy and will degrade while transported over the cables, 2) many A/V receivers will not apply any digital audio processing to the analog inputs, and in such cases analog signals will be sent directly to the amplifier without the benefit of such processing."

Probably not the exact same sound, but possibly one of those differences that is only measurable with a meter, but then again I don't speak from experience. I do know that I'm getting far inferior sound going through my optical audio cable. The A2 doesn't have analog outputs, unfortunately, but there's a new receiver in my future. Sorry, I thought this thread was all about ME!!!!

Maybe some difference depending on the design of a given receiver or pre/pro, but you should be able to determine either one is superior to what you normally listen to.

I would say the only way to tell ANY difference with 5.1 speakers will be if your sound system cost over $5-10,000.00 and you have the hearing of a sonar listener in a sub.

Using HDMI will give you matrixed sound out of the rear surrounds in a 6.1/7.1 speaker configuration. It also depends if you like the raw soundtrack unmodified or if you like a lot of post processing (i.e. THX, or other sound fields) your receiver may offer. I happen to like as little processing as possible to get what the director intended.

Yeah, me too. Sometimes I'll use "enhanced" mode but usually I keep the sound dry for better speaker separation.
