Not to rain on your parade but... that is no where near 4 million... sorry, just had to toss that out... just poking fun.

That is good for the PS3 though. Hopefully, Sony will get off of it's butt and release some games! Lair does look promising though

That IS better than initial reports, so many people didn't bother waiting for the midnight hour to buy but did the next day I guess.

That link did say they expected to sell out at launch but they only sold 75% of launch inventory so I do not think it was as good as hoped, but better than we initially thought it was going to do.

I wonder how many people thought they would have given away a 46" HDTV if they bought one that first day after the first reports?

Record-breaking 165,000 PS3s sold at UK launch

New format becomes fastest-selling home console ever over its debut weekend.

PS3’s record-breaking debut for a home console comfortably beats the previous top seller Nintendo Wii, which sold 105,000 after its frantic launch weekend in December last year. Fellow format rival Xbox 360 racked up an estimated 70,000 at launch in December 2005.
Good stuff

Not to rain on the PS3 parade, but I think the 360 was limited by what was in inventory and they sold out that 70K inventory immediately.

As I said previously though, the PS3 is doing better than the first reports.

4 million by the end of the year. Give it time, Stew.

Lair does look promising. As does Ninja Gaiden Sigma and a few others coming out this year. Motor Storm is great, too, just bought it yesterday and I'm loving the online races. You should buy it and we can go head-to-head online.

This quote was from an article i posted on 3/17 about the launch of PS3 in UK. Funny no recent articles have mentioned it.

"Sony is hoping to boost game players’ interest in watching movies on the PS3 by offering a free Blu-ray disc of Casino Royale to the first 500,000 PS3 buyers who register online, similar to its inclusion of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby with the first half-million U.S. players. Sony execs say 80% of U.S. users who received the free movie said they were more interested in watching movies on the console."

The reviews I read on Motorstorm weren't good at all. They say it is fun at first but gets boring quick. I might see if it is rentable and take a look after I get home. I am looking forward to another look at Resistance too. I only got to play it once with my brother in co-op.

My family really likes Virtual Fighter5 that just came out for the PS3 recently. Even my daughters like it.

Why do they keep putting out games on 720p though? I thought they were all going to be 1080p once upon a time.

You thought wrong then. Sony said capable, which is true as some games are. For VF5 I've readh you can disable 720p in the dash and it will play at 1080p.

1 on 1 like Tekken and DOA, though not as beginner friendly as though two.

I never got into those arcade fighters but... when I bought my 360 package, DOA4 came with it. I had a had a blast playing it but damn my thumb sure got sore! I brought that one over here to play for a while but finally unlocked everything for each fighter, including Master Sargeant... lol, that was funny.

Some people expected too much, IMO. It's just an off-road racing game, but a very fun one at that. All racing games break down to just being cars and courses and this one is no different. Like most racing games, the real fun is online. The terrain is very rugged and unpredictable and the variety of vehicles keeps things fresh.

With games like PGR and NFS, you're always dealing with cars and streets. It's all about speed and making turns as fast as you can. With MS, the courses are comprised of mud, dirt, rocks, ramps, and jumps and change dynamically every time someone drives through it. The vehicles range from big rigs to MX bikes and there are alot of collisions and fights. Very well-made game, IMO. The physics and lighting are among the best I've seen. It's not for all tastes but if you like unpredictable and challenging racing games you should give it a rent.
