Default Review:360 HD-DVD owns PS3 blur-ray...

Yet another review that prefers HD-DVD over BR. So much for the need for HDMI hunh?

http://www.gamescentral.com/blogs/te...vd-vs-dvd.aspx
Overall this test was to see what next gen game system player is superior, and based on these tests, I would have to say that the 360 add on is the clear winner. Movies on the Blu Ray do look great, but with color levels that are more even allowing for greater levels of clarity, HD DVD just looks better, even over component cables.

When it comes to the format war, I would prefer the winner to be HD DVD, as I feel that they have more of an understanding of what consumers (and movie geeks) are looking for in a "next gen" format. I respect that Blu Ray looks and sounds great, but to me HD DVD feels more next gen with not only the great picture and sound, but also things like IME and U Control. Sony's half assed attempt to match this with the shoddy Blu Wizard almost feels like a joke, and I am almost insulted as a hardcore movie fan.

If you have a PS3, I would hesitate before buying the 360 add-on, but only for a second. If you are a movie fan, then you owe it to yourself to check out the other side and make your own decision on who you are going to back in the war.

That was actually a very good read, and good tests.

Ohhh nooz, I dont have HDMI for my HDDVD drive.

Why do I have a feeling "someone" is going to come in here and talk about the "lossy" sound of the HD DVD drive?

"Games central" reviews next-gen technology. What a joke. Why don't we ask for Martha Stewart's opinion on the format war, too? These players have already been tested by actual professionals (what a concept! people that actually know what they are talking about) and have been shown to be equal in video and of course the Blu-ray player blows away the 360 strap-on with 7.1 lossless audio. So the PS3 comes out on top. If I had a lameass gaming website, I could post that and quote it. Anyone got some free webspace?

Provide links where "professionals" said that PS3 blur-ray player "blows away" 360 HD-DVD drive...

Go to hometheatrehifi.com and look it up. Let's see, 5.1 lossy vs 7.1 lossless? Hmmm. Duh, I dunno?

Maybe it's just me but the 1st ones look better, that is Blu-Ray right? They seem to have more rich and bright colors.

JFC, just provide the direct link to the webpage and make it easier for everyone to see - that way you can prove your point better!! You should learn how to be more helpful...wtf-ever!

Plus I didn't know "for christsake" was the actual spelling for "for Christ's sake"!

It's 10:10AM, Jan.1 here, but I am just about as far east as one can be... Only one time zone away from the IDL.

Happy New Year to all!

I don't know much about these web links mentioned here. But it appears to me that any website that proves Glows' point of view is legit and ones that goes against his opinion is complete morons. Do I have it about right, Glow?

I tried and tried to find the article/web page Glow is talking about and didn't see hometheatrehifi.com with that info on it but I did find this when I Googled Lossless vs Lossy

http://techdigs.net/content/view/55/42/

Lossy audio compression: Lossy is an audio compression method where pieces of data are intentionally discarded to reduce the size of the data stream. Depending on the amount of compression, a lossy-compressed stream can be close enough to the original in accuracy and quality that the difference is insignificant. If the compression is higher, the lossy-compressed stream can sound quite different from the original.

Lossless audio compression: Lossless is a compression method where no pieces of data are discarded and therefore can reproduce bit-for-bit the originally recorded audio.

This website has some really good info on the different audio formats.
