Default Motorstorm review(s)

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/928393.asp

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/768/768820p1.html

havent read it yet but im glad IGN got hands on the final copy first and finally. all other reviews (the ones from gamerankings) are reviews of the Japanese version which doesnt have online play. Plus the North American version is tweak alittle further(in terms of graphics and gameplay).

pretty nice score from IGN.. its exactly as i was expecting, a 9 out of 10(well 8.9 but 0.1 is hardy a difference). ... what hurt this game is most is lack of any offline mutliplayer, thats right no split screen or nothing. plus lack of any other options like Time trail, single race, practice.etc..etc.. theres only online and festival. Evolution will be adding a downloadable patch to support offline mulitplayer but i wont expect such a thing for afew months maybe.

i dont understand why developers are making games like motorstorm that do not have split-screen multiplayer offline. there are several games on the xbox360 that are like this and it drvies me nuts. what is the point of having the ability to hook up 4 or more controllers on a console if the games won't even support more than one person playing? i know online gaming is huge, but microsoft and sony need to make it clear to developers that offline split-screen multiplayer support should be mandatory. i like playing games with real friends as much as i like playing with online friends, so having games that we can pop in and play splitscreen is a big deal for me. lately, we are seeing less and less of 4 player split screen, and hopefully we are not going to see 2-player split-screen games start disappearing also.....

oh, and since this thread is about motorstorm, i will say that it does look pretty damn good from the screen shots...

The IGN review kinda bummed me out. I'm still psyched and can't wait to play this game but I really hope I'm still playing this through April and May.

Also, the ranking system bummed me out as well. Only counting wins? IGN had a great point when they said two friends could race each other and help the other win all the races to boost their ranking. No doubt this will happen.
What about top 3 wins? What about number of times you cause someone else to wreck? What about counting your own wipeouts?

Still looking forward to March 6th though.

Just as a thought. Motorstorm is the perfect rental. Small number of tracks and limited online modes. Oh yeah, and no rumble

I don't see how certain groups can get away with reviewing a unfinished or complete version of any game... Doesn't make sense.

Motorstorm looks decent.

Im surprised IGN gave it the ranking they did with the lack of playability options. The game looks beautiful and the crashes look awesome, but those type of things wear off after time, much like the chainsaw in GOW At first it was like soooooo cool, now its like grrrrrrrr quit sawing me!

I think IGN was generous with the score they gave it (based on what I think is important for a racing game).

Yes they were generous indeed. I will get a chance to play it possible within the next few weeks at a friends.

Usually IGN hates shallow games like that, however, I think they felt like being nice and throwing Sony their first bone.

How can you have a racing game that you can't race against your buddy on the same console.. that to me makes no sense.

None of my friends nearby play. So good for me I don't need split screen. I'm all about online play from here on out.

I am too, but it's just the principal. Like if you have a friend visit, and he's just happens to see your PS3 and be like "aww cool, what games you got?" then you tell him and he's like I played that motorstorm demo at wal-mart, let's race real quick.. then you're stuck being like Well, we can't race against each other in that one.. It's kinda lame in that respect.

I agree with you 100%. It has already happened to me. That part makes me look like a moron. However, in the long run I will be using the online play when MotorStorm BluRay is in. I have a poll out there of how many people would rather online play or would rather split screen or a combo of the both. Take a look!

Already did and posted
I mean, you can't feel too bad, cuz it's not your fault, but it's just a scenario that could pop up and kinda suck. And besides that Motorstorm is one of those type of games that my wife may actually wanna play w/ me every once in a while, and w/ no splitscreen that would completely cancel out that possibility, and the opportunity for me to talk a little shit to her.

I am very drawn away from any game that dosent atleast do split screen. I generally only buy games that do split screen, simply because I do a lot of gaming at other friends and families houses. Otherwise I just rent them. COD 2 and 3 are big favorites because we can have 8 players with just two consoles.

Omitting split screen is just stupid IMO, and motorstorm was actually looking promising, but if I cant play a racing game with my wife, or a friend that is visiting then to hell with it.

Can't wait until this hits. Based off the demo it will be my favorite game this generation so far.

yea the game does have a lack of features however i think they gave it that score cause in the long run the game is just a massive ton of fun to play, and playing the demo IT IS! 8 tracks doesnt sound like alot(and the fact that you cant play them backwards) but with so much action going on and chaos on the track, and with the variety of class vehicles i can imagine it being a ton of fun for even months(especially online!).. . the lack of split screen is not a big issue to me "personally". however its true that it is like a "standard feature" in racing games but i guess even the 360 is seeing these "no split screen" so its probably something that the developers are doing, maybe they figure "hey screw split screen and lets concentrate on more important stuff and online play". after looking at that poll by steve44 its obvious that the majority prefer online, some people even posted in there saying they hate split screen. also the developers(evolution studios) already said that if the demand is there, and the fans want split screen then they will add it as a downloadable patch. the graphics are gorgeous and though not 101% the same as the target render, its safe to say that they came damn pretty close, but in the long run i think they wanted a better gameplay and more funner game then making the game "look identical" to the target render. infact in a interview phil stated that evolution had to "turn down the mud" and not include the "inside the car view" in the final game because it affected the gameplay too much.. with a massive amount of mud the players wouldnt be able to see much.. i can easily picture in my head if they would have decided to keep the ton of mud and inside the car view.. reviews like IGN probably would have stated something like "well the inside car view is nice, however you can hardly see anything etc..etc..". .. i personally cannot wait any longer for this title.. im craving it so bad since im growing alittle bored of Resistance(after 3+months).. less then a week away

i will say that one flaw of Motorstorm is indeed the lack of online features.. all you can do is race and i prey that they add more features or tournaments or something(like a head to head battle.. etc..etc..). yes it supports voice chat(thank god) but the ranking system i know is not going to work out and they will eventually be forced to change it. but heres the worst worst part of all!!!!!! that really hit a blow to my stomach when i found out awhile ago... Motorstorm does not support the PS3's "friends list" NOR! does motorstorm support ANY kind of buddy/friend list what-so-ever.. NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!... so no i wont be able to even find any of my friends that are playing in motorstorm online.. oh well, i hope they change this in the future, the game is still going to be alot fun .
