Default Recent Console Sales Charts Indicate Sony is Finally Shipping more consoles.

Sony have announced today that sales of Playstation 3 have now passed the one million sales mark worldwide. Released in Japan and North America in November, the PS3 has suffered crippling shortages as Sony ramp up manufacture to meet demand. Nintendo's Wii console, released around the same time as PS3 has sold 2.34 million units.

VG Charts has released their most recent charts and here they are!

http://www.vgcharts.org/?topic=PS3

I did this research because of the recent surge of folks saying they're finding PS3's on the shelves. IT seems that SONY was either being truthful about ramping up production or stores have been hording PS3's creating a false shortage of PS3's and production has been fine after all. I personally saw SIX PS3's out on the shelves at my walmart this morning.

In case I don't get a chance to stop by the forum tomorrow Merry Christmas (or ChrismaHanaKwanziKa if you want to be Politically Correct) and Happy Holidays to all!!!

The problem is that PS3s are not flying off the shelves as many thought it would. If sony has already "met demand" then thats not a good sign at all...

trusting VGcharts is like trusting nexgenwars.com... i dont buy anything until i hear something officially from sony themselves . however i do know VGcharts has more of a reputation then "nexgenwars.com" . and it is obvious that they are close/on/pass the 1million mark as many people that are buying them now are not coming with the talladega nights blu-ray(which only the first 500k had).

at least its a good thing they are finally starting to ship out PS3's.

PS3s ARE flying off the shelves - at least in So CAL. I had been trying to find one for days calling around and visiting several stores multiple times per day. I finally got one but it wasn't until I got smart and started flagging down the UPS trucks and asking the drivers where they had delivered them. Best Buy had received 84 at noon and they were all gone by 5pm.

To make a blanket statement like that is just not right and very misleading. It may be true in your area but not so nationwide. I've been researching this XBOX vs PS3 thing for a long time and I can't believe all the BS I read from both the Sony haters and the Microsoft haters. It amazes me how people get so hell bent on bashing the side they are not on. Thank God there are a FEW folks here that are not brainwashed by either side.

I've been a member on this forum for over a year and a half and have truly appreciated all that I have learned on the HDTV side of things - for the most part very helpful and mature posts. Once I started looking into the gaming forums it was like another world.

I got the PS3 because I saw it as a good opportunity to get into the high def video world and get a gaming system at the same time. I will probably get an HD-DVD player in a few months as I see both formats being here for a very long time. You can bet that I will put the PS3 to the test after it gets opened tomorrow morning as I have no allegiance to either side and won't hesitate for a second to return it if not satisfied.

The anecdotal evidence seems to suggest that it is nationwide. Just from the scattered reports on here from people all over the country, it's obvious that the hype has died down enough to keep consoles on shelves for days at a time. That's very telling, considering it's Christmas Eve.

Last year at this time, there was no way to get an XBOX 360 short of forking over a grand or more on eBay. I don't remember reading a single report of a person finding 360s on shelves anywhere close to Christmas, before or after.

I mean come on - who in their right mind would have thought it would be possible to walk into a store a week before Christmas and buy a PS3? Yet it's happening all over the country...

Well there have been numerous posts, including the one by the OP here, that PS3s are in stock but not sold. Now look at the Wii, it has been shipped much more than PS3, but there have been no posts about "I went to store X and there were 6 Wiis waiting to be sold"...

Exactly that was precisely my point. And lets not forget 1.5 million 360s were shipped last year... PS3 marks just hate to admit that people did not fall for the PS3 hype. Smart move by them

Have you ever been to London, Ontario? I'm not going to make any generalized comments about the area but I know the cost of living is very low and the job market is poor. I met a girl there who went to the Canadian equivalent of Harvard and she couldn't get a better job than working at a grocery store. I don't think an area like that is going to have expensive consoles flying off the shelves...

Heh, now you are trying to make excuses.. So tell me, why are there still bundles available in U$? Yeah I know...bad economy nationwide..

Try reading this. Whats your excuse now?:
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=21856
Forced bundles and high retail price put consumers off, claims tracking firm

The high price of the PlayStation 3, along with the retail practice of bundling the console with software, has lead to a glut of stock online, claims tracking firm NotifyWire.

The company believes the fervour greeting the console launch has already slowed, with consumers put off by forced software and hardware bundles which in some cases can see the retail price doubled.

"I think we're already at the point where people won't pay a premium for the console or be forced into buying bundles," said Ian Drake, president of NotifyWire.

Drake believes interest is waning for the console, and compared the speed in which new Xbox 360 stock sold out before Christmas 12 months ago.

"Last year we tracked several one thousand dollar Xbox 360 bundles which would sell out in less than two minutes after becoming available."

Drake noted a US $1000 PS3 bundle was on offer at an online retailer for over 12 hours recently, claiming, "This sort of thing didn't happen with the Xbox 360 until well after Christmas."

Not exact quote but phone calls to various stores:

Me: Hello. Do you have any Nintendo Wii in stock?
Employee: Sorry we're sold out. But we do have some PS3s.
Me: Er, I didn't ask about the PS3.

Most Best Buy around my area seems like they want to get rid of them. LOL

Local FYE has had a sign in the front window for over a week "PS3's IN STOCK" asked sales associate how they have been selling, the response, they're not, too expensive. Was told 360 moving "well".
