$500 may seem like alot but it really isnt. its gonna be really hard to find a system at that price that will put you in the game. i used to own a sony $300 all in one system and it just couldnt put you there. unfortunetly those are the systems you will be looking at in your price range. recievers in that price range alone are considered entery systems.

do yourself a favor and save another $200 and use that extra cash on speakers alone. that will get you a nice pair of yamaha 6.1 speakers with sub and yamaha reciever for around $500. $200 more can take you from very minimal quality to decent entery system.

i dont know much about that particular system but i will warn you about systems with built in dvd players. they tend to break down faster then the norm, alot faster.

Yeah you get what you pay for. But with your budget, something along those lines is all you can do anyways, so just make sure you get the best bang for your buck.

I saved up for a long ass time however... and have spent 3500 dollars in front towers, center, and surrounds

just spent another grand on my HT subwoofer system I am putting together... should be done within a few months ..yay!

yeah same here. my towers, center, and surrounds would have cost me around $2,800 if it wasnt for my girls discount. i ended up paying about half that. im so glad each of my towers came with built in subs, which rock. when i got home i hooked up my little yamaha sub that came with my old yamaha sattelite speakers and it just wasnt cutting it. then i decided to try out the built in subs and oh boy was i missing out for that month.

i still cant believe i listened to boston acoustics, martin logans, vienna and ended up buying def. tech. before i came to this forum i had never even heard of them but then i noticed they were advertising the hell out of them in sound & vision. its kind of like the new car thing. you know when you buy a new car and you start noticing every one that drives by with the same car but didnt seem to notice before.

if i got one regret it would be not buying the bigger towers. i original bout the smaller surrounds but went back for the bigger ones a few weeks later. now i got a 7.1 setup ready for when i move out but my 6.1 is good for now. i only want 7.1 for the new audio formats. then i will upgrade my reciever when those formats hit the recievers.

enough with my rambling ( im a bit tipsy right now ) to the o.p. please do yourself a favor and not rush into buying a surround sound just to have one for your new tv and gaming system. save and buy a decent one or in a few months you will wish you got the better system. i take it from your post you still live at home so just save $25 a week over 2 months and you will get your extra $200 and wont have to upgrade for years. i will even help you find one online for cheap if you want.

actually ive got a job and i make 200 bucks every 2 weeks so its about 400 a month. thats only my weekend job though and im trying to find a job to have during the week so i can increase my income. but yauh idk. do you think i should get the 27 inch samsung hdtv or should i save up for the one with the 360's specs. its such a tough choice because i wouldnt be able to get the 360 hdtv until the begining of december but thats means i cant get ps3, new games like call of duty 3, gears of war, and all that. and i also wouldnt be able to get a s.s. system either. but if i get this tv and with my coupon its only 500 bucks which is really sweet. this way i will be able to get all the things i want. and im not like a hardcore gamer i just need an hdtv so i can have sum realistic graphics. but yes still a hard choice. i may upgrade to the 360 hdtv in the future like next year when its cheaper.

Maybe it might be best to go to a few places and listen to some of the systems and see how much they cost. Then you can budget for the one you like? You might want to save because the sound of that $300 system won't cut it. It's all up to you, what your willing to live with and how much your willing to spend.

I'm waiting until after I get my PS3 and High Def set to decide what kind of surround sound to get. Being a renter I'd love to find a decent wireless surround sound system.. Do they even exist?
