Just don't. Or play it on a console. At least that way you can get relatively reliable performance to play the least "Final Fantasy feeling" Final Fantasy game ever. You can tell this was never meant to be a traditional numbered entry in the franchise. There's a reason it started out as an offshoot to 13. And it should have stayed that way. For this thing to have been in development for as long as it has been, and this is the end product... Complete waste.

Obviously things should evolve from one numbered entry to another. But there are things that should be constants. The victory fanfare is one of them. Rearrange it, sure. Remove it completely? No. And having Prompto fake one is just insulting.

Between the bugs that still haven't been adressed, the convoluted story that needed more time to properly explain things (like, WTF is the archeaon and why are we going there out of the blue?), the horrid voice acting, the lack of variety of enemies, but then that final boss? Really? You know it's bad when Hubby looks at me when it's done and says, "That's it? I thought you said this was a FF game. How is it he hasn't morphed into another form yet?"

To think I got some of the worst image retention in my display I've ever seen, and now can't seem to get rid of... fuck this game.

By the time it was all said and done, I hated FF8. And I liked it better than this.
So most of your complaints about the game are technical in nature?

No, they just compounded the loathing for the problems I already had with it. I will admit two points out of 10 is just for the buggy mess that prevented me from enjoying what ~was~ there. The graphics were absolutely stunning — no doubt about it. But when the stuttering, and frame drops starts breaking through, that kills it. Especially when it results in a crash. I mean, one of the main causes of stuttering was because the game couldn't figure out which input icons to use. Seriously?? In 2018 a game doesn't know which inputs to put on-screen so it freaks out? That's just lazy. How was that not caught in the QC process?

Things I did like. I didn't mind the battle system once I figured out how to use the Wait mode. It let me be more strategic without being straight up turn-based. But I also rather enjoyed the Gambit system from FFXII. I enjoyed the car rides more than I thought I would. Especially once I started buying the other game's soundtracks.

Definitely spoilers in this list of things I didn't like.
  • Convoluted and underdeveloped story which led to a lack of environments to explore. We never got to explore the mountains of Nilfheim.
  • Enemy variety. When it rains, the only "wet" creature that comes out is a gigantoad.
  • Elements I consider staples of a main-line numbered Final Fantasy are missing – Musical things, Quest (not hunt) line bosses, and a mega-baddie, multi-form end-game boss.
  • Your "bros" telling you to stop hitting them when you accidentally hit the attack button.
  • Having to wait between using magic flasks when the game treats them like an item – I should be able to use as many as I want as often as I want.
  • Summons can only be used when the game thinks you need them.
  • Cerberus is creature from Greek mythology. Be more original.
  • And finally, an incredibly anti-climactic ending. We see no "end result". Are they actually alive at the end? The side of the building is still blown out which made me think perhaps they came back from "the beyond". One of the NPC's in the bunker after you meet up with Cor in Insomnia says someone was able to get Luna away to safety. So did she die or not? They never specify, yet they flat out say Noctis HAS to die to bring the light back. I was hoping for cutscenes involving the people realizing night was over, the daemons getting vaporized, fish coming back to the docks... anything. Instead, all we get is the two of them on the throne falling asleep. Lame.

I was going to jump straight into Tales of Zestiria, but I've actually decided to load up a shit-ton of mods and play with some ENB presets for Fallout 4 now that I've got a GPU beefy enough to handle the higher end ones.

I need an RPG break after that.

God of War - 12/10. I won't say anything for fear of spoiling it. It's that good, go play it.

Stick of Truth - Never beat it back when I got it. So I started it over. Ended with a level 14 Jew. Game is phenominal. It's not like 10/10 but a solid 7. If you like south park humor and RPG's you owe it to yourself to get this for next to nothing on steam and play it for the 12 hours it takes to basically platinum it.

Everybody says that about God of War but it just looks so boring... I've watched a bit of gameplay videos on Twitch. Hack n slash just so meh

It's not especially difficult but the story is amazing.

Trust me when I say that you can not hack and slash your way through challenging mode. You will die if you take 2 or 3 hits, normal enemies take 5 or 6 hits and health rarely drops. You must block, dodge or parry everything. I can't even imagine how difficult "God of War" mode is. You can make this game as difficult as you want it to be.

I'll probably pick it up at some point... Right now I'm juggling Fortnite and Zelda: BotW, which is one of the top 5 games of all time. And it runs at almost 60FPS

Do you have any new updates for settings on that emulator?

Yeah I'm running the latest (1.12.0). There may be 1.12.1 out now but no change for Zelda

This setup guide tells you how to do absolutely everything to get maximum performance, although this game is extremely CPU dependent, so your FPS is going to be determined by your CPU speeds.

I'm running a stock i5-7600k and I'm floating in the 50's most of the time, with shrines locked at 90FPS

Both of my kids have Nintendo Switch now and my oldest has Zelda. I'm definitely going to be playing it at some point, but gaming time has been tough to come by lately.

I will wait for my new system then. Most likely going with an 8400 so I should see performance on par with what you're getting. Maybe higher if it relies more on multi-core functions. I have a feeling the 2500K I have now would choke

I did play it on my 2500k briefly and it worked but I wasn't getting north of 30FPS

Well, I beat transformers devastation. It was in my psn library from whenever it was free. Alright game. The higher difficulties are brutal. There is no explanation of weapon or skill leveling.

I enjoyed it as a fun distraction. Nostalgia for the old "style" if nothing else. Looks like the new movie may be more true to the originals as well.
