Default Nioh (Team Ninja Souls-like Game)

So I've just started out but I'm already really into it and it has great reviews (Metacritic 87, userscore 90). This is a PS4 exclusive released by Sony.

This game is great so far. It actually has graphics options which is really nice for a console game. You can set it for framerate preferences or go for better graphics at expense of framerate.

It very much nods to Dark Souls. You may have to repeat segments until you can get through them without dying and there is a robust character development system. The focus of the game is the combat, which is very skill-based. You have to learn the combat system and strategy is required to progress. There is no jump button which makes positioning and the environment very important.

At any rate, I'm really enjoying what I've played so far. I went with axes as primary weapon and spears as secondary and am using a STR build, which is my usual sorta play style with these games. There is a lot of room for custom playstyles, and I've read that you can respec as well.

It would probably be a fun game to just play until you get tired of it.

Yeah I think it looks great. A slightly less frustrating version of Ninja Dark Souls. I just know I won't finish it as I can't seem to play games like that more than a couple weeks because Destiny broke video games for me.

Will this game still run at 60FPS without a PS4 Pro?

So there are some really essential things that the game doesn't tell you. Here are some very important ones I've learned so far:

* The passive skills you've learned from each skill tree are always active at all times no matter what. So it is worth checking all skill trees for passive skills you might need. Even if you never use swords if you learn a passive skill from the sword skill tree you get the bonus from it even if you don't have a sword equipped or even in your inventory.

* Even though tapping X to dodge often works for avoiding a hit it's worth noting that you can still dodge roll by double-tapping X. You cover a bit more ground and it has a few invincibility frames.

* The "Living Water" skills let you hit X to dodge during a Ki Pulse. So when your character flashes blue you can hit either R1 to Pulse or X to dodge when Ki Pulsing.

* Read an article or two about blacksmithing and the weapon upgrade system. It's really deep. Upgrading weapons works like infusing in Destiny. Best to read a quick how-to rather than fuck things up and waste weapons/mats in the process.

Picked this up blindly tonight. (which I very seldom do).
Team Ninja + the story time period sold me.

I'll probably also be doing the same thing for HZD.

Last night I found myself in a weird situation where I finished what I thought was the prologue beat boss, chose my main attributes STR build, whatever. Then in a looping tutorial.

Going back to the title screen just gave me "new game" and continue which starts tutorial all over again. yay. I'll have to check it out again later tonight when I get home.

That's really strange. For me it was intro level (tower of London), then tutorial, then it made me do one "real" level, then it unlocked the main game for me.

So I started this last night and for me we may have GOTY already. So far I am loving it.
5 and I will probably dominate this thread but others feel free . 5 so I chose the 'sickle on a chain and dual swords. Mainly looking at a stamina / dexterity build. Did Tower of London and the tutorial and am now in the introduction level. There is so much nuance with all the different weapon classed and then the Low, med and hi stances along with skill trees- wow. I get so excited that I keep forgetting to ki pulse. Next thing I know I am out of juice and panting / recovering. Also the PS4 controller sucks and am having a hard time quickly getting the d pad inventory just right and often 'shift' it to inventory 2 by accident with the left trigger. Anyhow a few questions- is it worth it investing points in onymushi magic (or whatever it is) and ninjitsu skills? Which guardian do you use. I am usi g the green bird one but may experiment with the tiger or shark. Gonna play the opening level some more tonight when I get home until I feel comfortable then finish the level and marathon for a bit.

PS I like the battle an box equivalent of somebody who died ( the red graves) That is cool.

Ki pulsing is worth getting used to and much improves your combat outcomes, especially once you get the skill that lets you dodge to Ki pulse. That is invaluable against bosses and tougher enemies.

You should probably put some points into either Ninjitsu or Magic. I've been leveling Magic, and there are definitely some useful spells. The one for healing is great since it will save you some elixers, and weapon buffs are available right away. You'll have to Google the elemental effects since the game doesn't explain them. The spell that gives you supercharged Ki regeneration is really nice as well.

So far as guardian spirit I really only use the bull, but that's because I play a tank so the health boost and getting small healing from amrita absorbtion is too good to pass up.
