Disgaea 5 - 8/10

Every single person here would probably hate this game. I however am a fan of tactics type gameplay and I like odd Japanese games. It's fun to see societal stuff from a different perspective. They have no issue putting in gay and women jokes for example. Now that I've beaten the "main game" the real game begins if I so choose to participate. That is grinding to level 9,999 and defeating the carnage zone item gods. We'll see. I usually get bored about now, but I got like 60 hours of play out of it.

I think next up is Blood Borne.

The problem is that I play a lot of Rpg game. So, that means that I am never done as the expansions are always added.

DS 3 for me also with same feelings. It isn't perfect (melee/magic balance is off) but a hell of an ending to the series.

Super late to the party but:

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition

Overall 8.5/10

Gameplay: Amazing. Once you get the combat down, get a setup you like, the combat is rewarding for timing actions, and all devious if you go for a smash everything build. Note: do not use the unlock FPS mod or combat because a test of timing versus reaction.

Story: There was a story there, some where, and what little I got from the game was supplemented by the wikia. I enjoyed it. I wish it was a little more direct, but if I wasn't eager to move on in the series I'd definitely replay this game to find what I missed.

Audio: Very drab, I found myself lost in the silence. Created the perfect atmosphere to lose yourself. Music played when it had to and it was right for the scene.

Graphics: I used a lot of mods, game looked great for its age so can't really rate since I sort of cheated.

Last boss took two attempts, fuck the Bed of Chaos, and downloading part 2 as I type this.

South Park: Stick of Truth 9/10

This was seriously one of the more "fun" games I've played in a loooong time. And most certainly one of the funniest. There were so many times I caught myself laughing out loud at the things that were being said.

So why not a 10? With about 3 or 4 more quests towards the end, they give you a weapon/armor set that is more powerful than any of the others that follow. There was no reason to further upgrade my equipment. Honestly, this was the only time in the game that I thought to myself, "Well that's stupid." Main quest plus a few side quests had me at a 15 hour play through.

If you can snag this for cheap, do it.

Totally agree - that game took forever and at times it seemed like it would never release but it was funny. It also was amazing how many characters and pieces of lore they included in the brief amount of time.

Another Late to the party, but:

Dark Souls 2

Gameplay: Combat still felt great. I tried a little more casting versus Dark Souls 1, but still felt like it was slow/clumsy at least for me. Melee was refreshing. Played a high armor/poise build and just laughed at hits. I get the feeling I play these games like a caveman with a simple mindset of crush you before you crush me. All my invasions (I have a good win record, against other players too) are usually won through brute force, High DMG + High Poise DMG == stagger you son! Love the combat in this game, bosses feel a little cheesy once you learn their pattern it's basically rinse repeat. I attribute my years of raiding to beating these bosses with little issue (that and probably farming so I out leveled everything haha).

Music: Same lack of music for 98% of the game, so when that piano kicked in during the credits, it felt amazing. The journey was over, the relief you feel as the piano's slow tune draws you into a state of comfort. There was no hard reset like in Dark Souls 1 after the credits, nope back at the main hub, music gone, time to do it all over again.

Visuals: Textures were low at places, but this game was great. I ran it at 4K+ resolutions, never dropped a frame, locked 60 FPS, and just amazing scenery from start to end. I wish the armor had more polish (pretty sure they ripped the Haven armor straight from DS1, but since I used a texture mod in DS1, I felt the armor looked better in DS1 than in DS2).

Overall: Greatly regret putting this game off for so long. I have loved every minute of playing through DS1 and DS2. I'm even looking forward to buying Bloodborne once I finish DS3. I might even dust off the PS3 and give Demon Souls another go.

Score: 9/10

How well did your mods run with DS1? I had done the DSFix without NMM initially, but I'll definitely be running with it this next time.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate HD

This was an interesting "filler" between the two Lords of Shadow games. It's an HD port of the Nintendo DS title. 3 separate acts exploring Simon Belmont's fight, Alucard's, and then Trevor's. I wish Trevor's had been first actually considering the relation (possible spoiler).

Anyway, for the $6 I picked it up at, it was worth the quick romp. I took 9 hours. Full completionist run would probably have looked more like 12 I think.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 oy.

OMG What a slog. One of my pet peeves nowadays is when devs make games overly difficult or obtuse to lengthen play time. There were multiple times I spent 15-20 minutes looking around scouring the environment for a tip as to where to go next. One time I spent over 30 minutes of pure frustration before finally figuring it out. Not to mention the puzzles are trite and feel forced.

But I think one of my biggest gripes is the ending. I mean literally the closing scene after the final battle.

Spoiler:
The ENTIRE game leading up to the end you're led to think you're going to finally die a true death and be free of immortality. You're told repeatedly that your family has forgiven you and they are ready for you to be with them in the afterlife. Nope. Doesn't happen. You're left with a complete lack of satisfaction. And I'm not the only one who thought this according to a quick google-fu.

So anyway... Hubby kept asking why I was playing it if I was so frustrated with the game itself. For the story I said. I really was enjoying the story. Until the end. As the credits started to roll, he turned to me and this was his reaction...

Oh, sorry Awol didn't see this post.

I was able to do 4K resolution @ 60 FPS with all the mods I had. My GPU was hitting it's top boost too, around 1312mhz is what I have it set for normal gaming.

When I set it back to 30 FPS, my GPU was often in the 900mhz range for clocks.

Only one place gave me any kind of hitching and it was Blighttown, though it wasn't gaming breaking.

And there were parts of the game with rough 5-10 second load spikes. At first I thought it was my mods, but Google showed that was part of the game, was even present on consoles. It was texture swapping. Seems that even the PC port is limited to I think 300mbs of textures at any given time. Which is interesting considering the textures quality of the HD pack.

EDIT: To your above post, GF laughed at my frustration at the start of Dark Souls 1. I was literally stuck at the first bonfire for probably 2-3 hours. I didn't know where to go. I painstakingly cleared the freaking basement ruins until I couldn't go any further. I spent a good hour dying to the skeletons only to finally make it to the catacombs and realize "nope this isn't right" as I almost died just walking in.

She turned to me and said "you can't force yourself to like it, just give up." Eventually I saw this path that led up the hill and like a fucking moron I was like "you fucking kidding me?" Of course by then I was like level 20, wielding a giant sword and just ROFLstomped my way up the side of the castle. Haha.

Dark Souls was definitely one of those games where I felt the devs intentionally left shit vague to encourage exploration, and ultimately death, but in the end it felt rewarding because you did get stronger. Unlike those games that leave you trapped in a room for 30-45 minutes with no progress to your character development just because "time sinks."

The 300mbs for textures is actually a DSFix limitation I think. That said, it could be an actual engine limitation that then coincides to DSFix. I remember reading something about it when I was looking at the description on Nexus for the HD Textures. And Blighttown was a framerate slog anyway. I remember there being some almost game breaking moments when I was playing on my 670. And it doesn't make sense. The whole place is almost pitch black.

Seriously. I absolutely detest fake game time.

Salt & Sanctuary. 8/10

This is a Dark Souls clone whose gameplay style is 2D Metroidvania. A good combimation, decently executed. Flawed, but very fun.
