Well then, if this is a day one patch, WTF were they showing at E3?

http://blog.ubi.com/assassins-creed-...playstation-4/

Quote:
Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag in Native 1080p on PlayStation 4

Marking yet another milestone for the killer franchise, Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag on the PlayStation 4 is the first Assassin’s Creed game to be rendered in true native 1080p. In other words, the already gorgeous game will be, well… even more gorgeous when it sets sail on the PS4.

One small caveat: players will need to download a title update (available shortly after release) to enjoy the full 1080p native resolution.

Even without the title update, the game is undeniably stunning on next-gen consoles. Indeed, as Associate Producer Sylvain Trottier suggests, some players might not even be able to tell the difference. That’s because the game, as shipped, is being rendered on next-gen at a resolution that’s very close to 1080p (900p, if you’re curious), and the upscaling process barely adjusts the image.

“If it’s running at 720p vs 1080p, you’re going to notice the difference, by far,” Trottier explains. “But if it’s set at a resolution that’s very close, where most of the pixels are already there in internal processing, most people won’t see any difference.” Those who can spot the differences might note that the game would be, in some very subtle ways, slightly less crisp but a tiny bit smoother.

But why ship at 900p in the first place? To meet an essential goal: deliver a visually brilliant game at a steady 30 frames per second (the industry gold standard for open-world games). Finishing the game at 900p gave the development team the extra room in terms of the GPU and CPU usage to ensure the framerate never dips below 30 frames per second. The team then used the time between the ship date and the release to focus on a title update that could deliver native 1080p resolution on the PS4.

But they didn’t stop there.

“The most important part of this title update is not necessarily 1080p native resolution,” Trottier smiles. “It’s the fact that even when we were done with the project, even when we were finished with the certification and everything else, even when most of the engineers had started to work on other projects – like we always do at Ubisoft – some of my engineers continued to work on Black Flag and they even developed a brand-new anti-aliasing technique.” (Anti-aliasing is a technique used to diminish the occasional appearance of jagged edges in computer-generated graphics.)

Indeed, along with the full 1080p native resolution, the visuals have been improved even further, simply because the engineers knew that with the additional time they could do even more. So they did. And now, not only will you see every single miniscule pixel in glorious 1080p native resolution on the PS4 – exactly as the artists rendered it – but you’ll also see an even cleaner, clearer and more brilliant moving image than anyone even imagined. (Pay special attention to finer details like the ropes on the ships if you want to get an eyeful of what we’re talking about.) And the best news for gamers on the latest next-gen systems? This anti-aliasing technique will be available for both PS4 and Xbox One.
TL;DR:
PS4 version ships @ 900p no AA, a patch will boost it to 1080p CustomAA (curious on this, I call bullshit they created a new AA, but hopefully someone breaks it down because AA is a plus! If I had to guess, their connection with Nvidia allowed for some AA magic, possibly SMAA (which is FXAA+MSAA))

Xbone version no indication of resolution, but will also get the CustomAA option so even if it's a lower resolution, hopefully jaggies won't be an issue.

EDIT: I forgot Bruce stickied all the threads, I'm not sure if I've been posting in the right one now haha.

Stealing from someone over at ATF:
IGN: Killer Instinct
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/...nstinct-review
Quote:
The Verdict
The sad truth about fighting games is that much of what makes playing them against others interesting is usually kept obscured. Killer Instinct succeeds enormously at exposing all of that information to players of all skill levels. Not only is its combat system flashy and well thought out, it's well explained too, thanks to its powerful training tools, and what is easily the most complete guide to terminology and tactics ever assembled in a fighting game. Though it lacks an arcade mode or a full-sized character roster, Killer Instinct delivers where it counts.

8.4 GREAT
Though the roster limits the possibilities a bit, Killer Instinct makes a triumphant return with smart, fluid fighting.

+Excellent tutorials
+Smart combat system
+Gorgeous effects

– Limited roster
– Character art
IGN: LocoCycle:

Quote:
The Verdict
If nothing else, LocoCycle earns its name. It’s got not one, but two sentient motorcycles, and buckets full of loco. I imagine I’ll have forgotten what LocoCycle played like long before I forget its unapologetically zany live-action bits, and its questionable treatment of Pablo. Its inconsistent gameplay becomes tedious despite its imaginative variety, and its levels lack cohesion or a sense of momentum. Like the cheesy 90's films it apes, LocoCycle is memorable, but not quite good.

6.4 OKAY
LocoCycle earns its name with a metric ton of crazy, but its inconsistent, monotonous gameplay ultimately derails it.

+Zany and imaginative
+Loving 90s homage

– Inconsistent gameplay
– Last-gen visuals
– Some questionable humor
IGN: Crimson Dragon
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/...-dragon-review
Quote:
The Verdict
Crimson Dragon works well enough as a straight arcade shooter, and there’s plenty of challenge in it. There’s some nostalgic value, too, but it’s weak graphics and frustrating free-flight boss fights make it tough to enjoy the stroll down memory lane.

5.9 MEDIOCRE
Crimson Dragon is a competent arcade shooter, but its heavy grinding and weak presentation drag down the pace.

+Good on-rail controls
+Deep RPG elements

– Dull presentation
– Lame A.I. characters
– Free-flying controls
IGN: Powerstar Golf
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/11/...ar-golf-review

Quote:
The Verdict
Powerstar Golf manages to successfully marry an old-school arcade golf experience with some decidedly new-school ideas. The lack of proper online multiplayer is a bit of a blow, but the Rivals mode has the potential to provide an ongoing challenge after you’ve scooped up all of the career medals. It’s not a complete hole in (Xbox) One for golf fans, but it’s a good deal of fun if you desperately want to hit the links on your new machine.

7.0 GOOD
Powerstar Golf has last-gen looks but incorporates forward-thinking features, and is a fun way to hit the links.

+Addictive career
+Rivals mode
+Fun special abilities

– Last-gen looks
– Unremarkable courses

I don't get how Character Art is a negative for Killer Instinct? Do they look bad? Low polygon? Like the other games "last gen graphics"? Or are they using a completely subjective measurement as a negative? DAFUQ?

I hate the art style of SF4, but I wouldn't use it as a negative for the game.

Dead Rising 3 got an 8.3, graphics and loading times were the only negatives. Other than that, the game looks fun as shit!

Yeah what do they mean by that? Is it the character art that's unlocked? Anyways will be a day one purchase for me (with all the characters).

I also heard there was some slowdown with so many zombies on the screen at once.

Early videos of Dead Rising showed nothing different from 1 and 2. Not my cup of tea.

Really bumped Crimson Dragon got panned. I might still get it, Knack was decent and it got panned.

Amazon sent me a notification that it's accepting limited preorders for the Xb1 tomorrow starting at 5am pacific. I guess it's mostly to fill the cancellations, but I'm thinking of ordering it again. It would be nice to share in the excitement. Do you think it'll sell out in a few minutes or can I get up at 6am like I normally do?

Hmmm, if it was me Bruce and I really wanted one I'd go for it. IMO I think the odds would be it selling out.

I agree it'll probably sold out within an hour, probably a few minutes. I'm leaning towards wanting it so I'll just set the alarm.

Agreed, I think that's a good decision. If they are going to go really fast, you'll have to get your clicking finger warmed up, lol.

I see Amazon has confirmed that the Xbox One is no longer available for delivery ahead of the Christmas period.

"With the Xbox One release date scheduled for next Friday, November 22, Amazon has announced that new Xbox One pre-orders will now not be honoured until after the festive period.

“Orders placed from November 13 may not be delivered before Christmas,” a note on the retailer’s Xbox One product listing states.

News that the Xbox One is no longer available in time for Christmas comes just one day after Amazon announced that it would no longer be able to ship new PS4 pre-orders to gamers in time for the holidays.

While Day One Xbox One pre-orders have been sold out for a number of months, this marks the first time a major retailers has indicated just how short in supply the eagerly awaited next-gen games console will be in the run up to the Christmas period."

Well fuck, this ties into the email I got from Ebgames. So basically since I'm on the 2nd shipment date, this means I probably won't get mine until AFTER Christmas?

I need to contact EB tomorrow. This was originally a Xmas gift for my nephews, but I got selfish...Karma man, fucking karma.

Bruce if what Razor posted is true, and you can score one before Christmas, jump on it. I WILL set my alarm too.

Yeah but if I get in for the Day One preorder than I'll get it day one, right? The email they sent me is regarding the day one preorder and not the standard edition. I'll probably just cancel again if they delay my order until after xmas, but the Day One order is supposed to guarantee day one availability.
