Default State Of Game Development Survey Reveals iPhone Support Surge, Wii Lull

http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/2...e_Wii_Lull.php
Of these mobile developers, nearly three quarters of that group are targeting iPhone and iPod touch development, a number more than twice the reported support for traditional handhelds like Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

Meanwhile, the choices of development platform showed relative stability. Just over 70 percent of developers said they were developing at least one game for PC or Mac (including browser and social games), rising slightly from last year; 41 percent reported working on console games. Within that latter group, Xbox 360 was the most popular system with 69 percent of console developers targeting it, followed by 61 percent for PlayStation 3.

While those console figures stayed within a few percent of last year's results, the change in Wii adoption was much more significant: reported developer support for the system dropped from 42 percent to 30 percent of console developers, supporting numerous publishers' claims of a recent softening of the Wii market.

Right now you can get the free demo of Nazi Zombies on the iPhone, and I must say on a stadard 3G it plays fairly well.

if you have the 3GS you are better off because it has a better proccessor and mor RAM. Otherwise I play more of the "flash style" games on my iPhone.

For those that don't have it Friendz is a free Xbox app now for managing your XBL friends list and even allows you to send and read text messages on XBL.

A few things on this. First is that the Wii had ist's biggest sales month EVER in December. So the tales of it's demise may have been exaggerated.

Second, I am really perplexed on the iPhone apps craze from a developer standpoint. I know there are a lot of iPhones but with so many being under $2 or even free, how the heck can they actually make any money? Is the whole iPhone app thing going to be a fad, or will it shift dramatically?

Lastly, I have heard rumours gaining speed of a new Nintendo platform to be annouced at GDC this spring. Many people point to annecdotal evidence. I am not convinced in any way this will happen but it could explain things such as this decline in planned production, the curious quotes and delays surrounding The Grinder recently and others.

I think as long as it maintains (or increases) its market share it will continue to be a growth market for apps, especially since current owners will constantly be interested in new apps. There is a LOT of useless garbage out there though. I read an article recently that stated that Apple didn't predict much more than 1% market share for the iPhone, so with it being around 14% it has blown away expectations. AT&T absolutely didn't know what they were getting in to!

Which must be why the Iphone doesn't work near NYC. In this area AT&T service is the worst thing ever. Verizon blows it away.

Yeah, I've heard of issues in NYC and San Fran, though I think they are supposed to be upgrading in the trouble spots to meet the heavy "iHog" data demands. No issues with their service in my area though.

Zombie Attack- I don't know what genre of game this fits into but it's a strategy game where you try to protect a house from zombies by placing gun turrets. It sounds lame but it's actually really fun, beware though it's addictive.

3D Brick Breaker Revolution- Cool 3D Breakout/Arkanoid style game.

Definitely don't buy Tetris for iPhone, it's the worst Tetris game ever, the controls aren't meant for a touch screen. It's very awkward and becomes literally impossible when you get to higher levels.
