Default HDTV problem

Hey all,

New to this forum so i hope you guys can help me out here.

I know absolutly nothing about TVs, and ran into a wierd problem today.

Purchased an xbox 360 today and got it home and setup on my ILO-2600 (i know... not a great tv), and i was able to configure it in 1080p mode, thinking it wouldn't do 1080p if it wasn't supported by that TV. It took it just fine and I was able to play Bioshock for about 2 hours. Then i started noticing some odd discoloration.

So i looked at my TV manual and it only shows as supporting up to 720p. so my first concern is i'm hoping i didn't cause any permanent damage to my TV.

Now i did a little troubleshooting. I had the 360 connected to the tv via component cables. HD dvds play in my dvd play via component cables just fine with no discoloration at 480pi. So, that made me feel a little better. So i fired up the xbox and it was still discoloring at 720p.

So i let the tv sit for a bit turned off. When i came back i was able to run at 720p for about 10 mintues before seeing discoloration again. It happened very gradually. So i was thinking maybe heat was the issue??

Also, Xbox runs fine on the standard AV cables with no discoloration at all.

Any thoughts anyone?? Is my tv damaged?? Is there anyway i can fix this??

Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum! I don't think YOU damaged your display but it sounds like a defective display.

If you can return it for a better brand that is what I suggest, otherwise get warranty coverage to repair the display.

Got some more info today.

After letting the TV sit all night, i fired it up in 720pi today and was able to play for almost 4 hours before it started distorting and discoloring.

It was very little this time and when I dropped it down to 480pi it seemed to stop getting worse.

Beings i was looking for it this time i was able to further define the picture distortions. the first place i notice it is text on a white part of the screen. It starts to streak out on to the right about 2 inches for each character. When it's really bad all of the colors become extremely intense and all the lines become difficult to see.

Anyone else run into this.

Thanks!

How long have you had this display? Is it still under warranty? If it is still under warranty, then I would call them to repair it. But if you have only had it for less than 30 days I would just exchange it for the same model or get a better brand. If it is under 30 days you should not have to go without a TV while they repair it.

Good luck!
