Default Decision Made: KURO 111FD

Thanks for the help in reaching my decision! Now, since there's so much more experience here in buying these high-end electronics online, I have to ask... If you were buying this tv now, what authorized online dealer would you pick?

Local Best Buy is uninterested in moving off of their current $3,999 sale price.

Thanks!

Do an internet search for "The Official Pioneer 9G Elite KURO Owner's Discussion Thread" (without the quotes). A few authorized Pio dealers post in that thread every day. A couple have also posted in HighDef Forum too, but on a more sporadic basis. One or two of them are authorized Elite dealers. You will have to call them on the phone for a price, since Pio does not allow quotes on the Elites on-line. I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

I have not purchased anything from these dealers yet, but if you read through that thread and related Pio threads there, you will find scores of owners who have purchased from them and are very satisfied with the entire buying experience.

Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Thanks! That's a great thread. Lots of talk on there about a break-in DVD. Is this something that comes with the unit?

Great choice!! I have the 151FD.

You may try stereo advantage if you are here in Buffalo. I got a great deal on mine. They will match most any price and you get the local service as well.

I'm assuming your in Buffalo.

I have found that aound here is a lot of regular guys/people, and if you want to really get into the "nuts, and bolts" of AV equipment then try www.. That said, I spend way too much time on both sites. Good Luck!

The BestBuy by me didn't move, but...another one certainly did! Just purchased it this AM from Walden Magnolia BestBuy for a great price. They matched all of the lowest online prices!

It'll be ready for pickup this Wednesday, and I can hardly wait! Going from a 27" CRT that has long since seen its day...

The break-in DVD does not come with the set. As far as I know, plasma manufacturers do not say it is necessary. However, there are quite a few posters on that forum who are convinced it is. Plasma manufacturers will indicate a recommended break-in procedure for their sets in the owners' manuals. Be sure to follow it for the prescribed time, following which you should have little concern about any type of image retention, temporary or otherwise.

If I remember correctly, you can download the break-in DVD somewhere in that 9G Owners thread. You'd better read through the thread though, to locate the posts that tell you how to use it properly, to avoid any possibility of damage to your new set.

A more important DVD IMO would be one of the available do-it-yourself calibration DVD's such as DVE Essentials or Avia. With one of these discs and the myriad controls of the 9G Elites, you can dial in a picture that is darn close to perfect.

If you want true perfection, then the only way to go is paying for a calibration by a professional ISF Calibrator. You'll find a few of the ones with good reputations posting in that same thread.

Wow 27" CRT > Pio Elite! You, my friend, are about to be re-born, TV-wise at least. Best of luck and please report back using all the appropriate adjectives, e.g. "jawdropping," "amazing," "unbelievable," etc.
