Got my Avia II disc and calibrated my system and WOW! My picture quality seriously improved by at least 50%! It looks amazing! Thank you very much to everyone who gave me advice to buy a calibration disc.
Now that I have my system calibrated, I want more HD channels! :P Does anyone know what service will provide me with the most HD channels? And what is the most HD channels a person can get? Thanks guys! |

I have the Avia disk, and it worked great for my 32" tube tv. I mean what a difference. But I couldn't get much out of it on my lcd tv. Is there a specific version of the disk for flat panel tv's?

Ok, I have a Toshiba lcd. It's been some time since I tried. But I didn't see much change when attempting to adjust the color and tint via the part where you hold the filter in front of your eyes. Like I said, it's been a long time since I attempted to use it on the lcd. What did make a big difference on the tube was adjusting for sharpness. I had no idea that I had the sharpness adjusted too high. I always thought that would give me a better picture. But after using Avia, it was so much better. Anyway, before I state something wrong, let me go back and attempt to use the Avia disk again on the lcd so that I can more clearly state what I see/don't see happening.

Where might one purchase one of these fancy "avia" discs?
And, please tell me, how exactly does it work? I can't imagine how they put a picture on the screen, and you adjust.......to what? how do you know what do adjust to? Do they say to try for perticular colors, etc? I'm very curious. |

First the DVD walks you through a lot of introductory chapters about components for video, audio and general home theater setup. Later on in the DVD it comes to video/audio test sequences. I've only done the video, but basically they put test patterns on the screen and tell you what it should look like when you find the optimal setting for a specific visual setting (for example Contrast or Color). An example: with the DVD they give you a piece of blue plastic that you look through and you change the tint/color until the squares on the screen appear to blend with the background. There's a lot OF tests that can help you optimize your TV that you wouldn't be able to do by yourself. At first I was very skeptical, I thought it would make a minor difference at most. I was greatly surprised, this thing made the picture quality a LOT better! I'd say a 50% difference. The image looks much clearer now and the colors are much more vivid... best $30 I've spent in a while ![]() |
