Default Polaroid 4241-TLXB HDMI / HDCP issues

I just purchased a 42" Polaroid 1080p LCD Tv 4241-TLXB. I also picked up a Toshiba Upconversion DVD Player/Recorder (D-R400). Well I get home and hook it all up. The picture on the TV is great. However, when I hook up the DVD via the HDMI cable, there is no signal. The dvd player works fine with the standard connection at 480p, but when I try to play at any higher resolution (which requires it to be connected through the HDMI port), it does not work. The DVD player manual says the TV must be HDCP compliant. I called Polaroid and they said the two may not be compatible (the guy didn't sound too sure). How can this be? I bought a 1080p tv and a DVD player that plays DVDs at 1080p.

Am I missing something here? What is the point of having a 1080p TV that does not play something in 1080p? How am I supposed to know what is compatible and whats not, if that is the problem? please help

Yes, they should all work with no problems, but . . . . .

There have been problems with "handshake" between some equipment due to something called "HDCP".

This problem is "somewhat" rare, but does occur. Try another DVD player - if it works great; if it does not work, then it could be a Polaroid problem, in which case you may wish to take it back and try another brand.

I have not heard anything good about the Polaroids. I have a buddy who works for a major repair shop and he says they get more problems with that brand than any other. I would really consider returning it if you still can and get something with better reviews. Just my opinion but I have heard the same thing from a couple of different forums also.

Default cable

As it turns out, it was the HDMI cable. I bought a ps3 cable hdmi 1.3 and it was either faulty or incompatible. The upconversion dvd player doesn't look any better at 1080p vs. 480p so it looks like its going back

Default Question for D-R400 Owner

We have the same DVD player/recorder and love it. However, cannot figure how to erase and re-use DVD-RW disks on this unit? Do you know how to do this? Thanks.

Those models should have Edit button on your remote or a mode to get in and finalize the disc. Each brand is different.
