Default My center speaker problem with Plasma.

So I miss my big traditional CRT rear projection for one reason. My big JBL S-center fit right ontop of it! Now with a wall mounted plasma under 4" in depth I don't have that option. Of course I don't want to mount a shelf above or below the tv, which would only cause the speaker to stick out in depth in front of the plasma. Just kills the look I think, like having a plasma on a table top stand. Anyway what option would you suggest? I was thinking of having the speaker recessed into the wall, by cutting the hole below the plasma, making an enclosure to cover the back of the speaker, with some ventalation holes etc., and sliding the speaker inot the wall so it is near flush with the tv. Then maybe some trim around the speaker front. My other option is to buy a new slim center that I can wallmount like the tv. However I want it to be very slim, any suggestions on brand type. I wonder though will I sacrifice sound quality for the slim design? The speaker I have now has 9

Default Slim Center Speaker

Your options are the Kef t101c and the Kef t301c , both 35mm thick and using a specially designed bass unit to give the slim line.

Apart from that you have to spend crazy money.

Since the JBL is ported to the rear, an enclosure would significantly degrade the sound.

While sleek looks are cool, I've recommended in the past that folks either spend bucks for inwalls that are made to be inwalls, or hang by any method, their centers above or below the display.

Yours is 9" deep. A foot out from the top of the display and pointed to your primary theater seating may or not be too bothersome visually, especially when viewing a film in a dark room.

To counter the effect in the past, I have installed panel hangers that pull away from the wall a few inches and also tilt the display down to the primary viewing spot. These actually allow for versatile viewing as well as the display can be swung into different positions.

I liked those JBL's. Frankly, you will miss it.
