Default 65" TV choice

We're getting a 65" TV and wanting to spend under $1,000. I researched for a while and from the recommendations I read it came down to the TCL 6 Series 65R615 or the Vizio M Series M657-GO. I had noticed some LGs in the lists, but hadn't paid too much attention since I think they were OLEDs and out of my price range.

I went to a store to have a look and at that point I remembered that I often am bothered by the soap opera effect when others aren't. I'm often wanting to change the settings at friends houses/hotels etc when others aren't bothered by it. The salesman had been giving me advice on the Vizio vs the TCL and had said another option would be the LG 65SM8600PUA. He did mention that the blacks wouldn't be as good, but otherwise felt that the picture was better than the other two options.

When I remembered about the soap opera effect he said the LG was the only one of the 3 that had an option for turning the (motion smoothing?) on and off/controlling it, so I went for the LG. It won't be delivered for another two days so there's time to change the order...

But now I'm wondering if I've made the right choice as we often like to watch in a dark room, and the blacks/contrast are supposedly the achilles heel of this LG.

Anyone familiar with these models, feel one way or the other about what the right choice would be here?

I guess the big thing iím wondering is, can you control the soap opera effect (get rid of it or lessen it if youíre noticing it) on The Vizio M or TCL?
