Default Bravia KDL-32S4000 Question

Hey guys.

I have a quick (noobish) question I'm hoping you can help with.

I have a 32 sony bravia that has a optical out.
If I hook up all my gear through rca/component/hdmi and then have the optical out going to a surround unit, Will everything play out through it?

Apologies if it is a stupid question.

It should handle your sound needs.

Not necessarily so. The Optical-Out on Sony TVs of that vintage usually only passed audio from the TV's internal ATSC/QAM tuners. To pass the sound from any other sound source via the TV required the user to connect the analogue audio-out (red & white RCA jacks) to the sound system. The sound would be stereo only and the TV speakers would need to be turned off to activate the audio-out jacks.

The OP needs to try it out. If the optical out does not pass everything then he/she either needs to connect the analogue audio-out as well, or connect all sound sources directly to his/her sound system.

Thanks, I stand corrected.
