Default Screen continually brightens then dims on LN55C650

We just received a new Samsung LN55C650. We were watching The Expendables Blu-Ray on a new LG BD590.

There were a few scenes where the entire screen would continually dim for about 5 seconds, then brighten for about 15 seconds. It was like clockwork for those scenes, constantly going back and forth between a dark and a bright screen for 5 and 15 second periods respectively.

Should I return it? Is there a fix?

Thanks.

Check that "Dynamic Contrast" is turned off. Under Picture Settings/Advanced Settings.

If that does not do it then the backlight ballast may be the problem and should be returned.

We had a few days of worries on our new LG 47LD500 where it would randomly dim. In our case it turned out to be the "power saver" mode which was adjusting backlighting due to variances in room light. Once I found that I have not had any more issues. Not sure if this is a setting on your Samsung or not but it may be worth a look.

Thanks for the responses.

I will try turning off Dynamic Contrast and take it from there. Someone on another forum also suggested to turn off Eco Solutions...not sure what that is, but I guess I can try that too.

Eco Solutions is most likely the same thing I was calling power saver mode. It will only make the TV as bright as it thinks it needs to be regardless of what you have your backlight set to. So if it adjusts mid scene you will notice it. It had us thinking our TV was defective until we figured it out. Super Annoying setting.
