Any word on the new HD channels coming to Dish on August 15th, 2007? A USA Today article mentioned the additon of about 8 new HD channels. Animal planet, History, Discovery, were just a few.

Discovery? Dish already has Discovery.

Dish and other providers have Discovery HD Theater. The Discovery channel will be launching a HD version of the SD channel.

I hope they do not go HD-lite to save some bandwidth. Then I hope I get the new satellite when they launch it.

My wonderful Dish installers from whom I also bought a new Sony HD TV also tied me into the locals all of whom have HD with RABBIT EARS!!!! I get 90-100% signals and the PBS station has four subsets (childrens, government, educational and two PBS) with the best quality HD I can imagine. It almost seems that I don't need the Dish Channels any more but I couldn't get along without the HD Dual Recorder which also works off the Dish menu. The Dish HD offerings seem pretty lame compared to the locals I have. Really nice.

OTA channels in digital HD are the best quality picture you can get, they blow away the others because satellite and cable providers use a method of compression that can hurt the picture unlike the OTA signals. I installed an OTA antenna 2 weeks ago to get all my locals in HD. Gotta love the NFL in HD baby!

I looked at the NEW HD channels before going to work this morning.I was impressed with a few and not impressed with most.
First of all,I was impressed with MTV's new HD channel.Very sharp looking.Also was the Learning Channel.
I was'nt impressed with how the new Discovery Channel looked or Animal Planet,Science Channel which I thought from what I read on these forums that it was going to be the Science Fiction channel..which it is NOT !
There's one new HD channel I could'nt figure out what it was..it has a weird new name which I can't remember..but it's not next to any of the new HD channel's...it's more on the outskirts of the old Voom Channel's.
All in all I'm not too happy with the new HD channels.Though it's great to have them at the same time.I'm sure my teenage neices who live with me will be happy with the MTV HD channel. I personally could care less about MTV,but that channel looks FANTASTIC !

Personally I'm just shocked that any MTV channel is actually showing music!

From what I saw on a quick scan, the quality looked equally as good (at least on those channels actually showing HD signals, which some were not.)

Hard to get the SciFi channel in HD when they don't have it yet. And with the lack of quality of their shows (and severe editing of others like Dr. Who,) why waste the bandwidth? And this is coming from an science fiction fan, by the way!

I meant visual quality, rather than content. When I flipped through the channels, Vs HD was showing 4:3 progamming rather than 16:9.

That being said, it still looked better than what Dish was doing with the NESN HD signal that was being down converted to 4:3 on it's regular channel. The macro blocking on that channel makes watching sports impossible for the most part.
