Default What is the point of the DVR function???

I got the HD box for dish network and it has a controller for the DVR function but it does not work. What is the point of the DVR function for HD box when it does not even work??
I have my doubts about the Dish Net. I wish I would've got Direct TV. They at least in my area offer local channels in HD. They also offer more HD channels and better sport packages.

My ViP211 has a DVR button, but it is not a DVR.

So, the button is an affectation, except that Dish is working to add USB external drive support for the Vip 211, maybe later this summer.

They use this same remote for several different models - helps keep the cost down.

Keep the faith, Dish Network receivers are superior to DirecTv receivers, IMHO.

Did you order DVR service with your HD? You have to pay for it and get the right HD DVR receiver which is free when you sign up. All the remotes are the same. Let me tell you that Dish dvr service is much better than direct tv.

That is not what the OP was referring to, he has a 211 (a non-dvr receiver) and the remote has the buttons for the dvr on it.

Dish uses the same type of remote for their similar model receivers, also the remote can be used on four different types of equipment (vcr, dvd recorders, surround sound, ect) and those functions can be used on them as well. Also, those features would work once the external hard drive for the 211 comes active later this month. I doubt Dish would be happy sending out a lot of new remotes to the customers who would use this service.

Default Yes

we have two 211's and one DVR, the remotes have similar layouts. There are two remotes that come with the DVR however.

Why, ask Dish? Guess they are just trying to make things easier for themselves when replacing remotes.

Don't know why that would make you feel cheated by Dish...but
"whatever."

If he just got it, he must have the 2 year contract, bit late and way too costly to cancel.
He should upgrade to 622 HD DVR, DVR is freaking awesome, it's like having 3 VCR's.

Default Actually

it is a devious IQ test for the sales staff at Dish. It identifies customers who may have low IQ's and be susceptible to offers that people of even average intelligence would pass on. The message says, "Village Idiot identified, call quickly before Direct TV gets to him"

"Dear Diary,
Gosh, I started my first "urban legend" today!

I can't see how the OP should feel cheated, if he saw the remote and thought he was getting a dvr when he didn't ask for it, makes no sense to me. If he requested a dvr and received the 211, he should be on the phone with Dish complaining. Also, after rereading the original post, I am surprised he didn't go with Direct in the first place.
