Default vip722 2 inputs installation

I just had a vip722 installed, and noticed on the back of the reciever that there is 2 satellite inputs. The installer just used a splitter right behind the reciever for these 2 inputs. My question is, would 2 lines coming directly in from the satellite be better than using a splitter?? i thought that a splitter would have signal loss??? I have just never seen 2 coaxial cables coming in through the wall to one reciever.

Your setup if fine. Use of a DPP Separator (that thing that you assumed was a splitter) is a much better setup than running two separate coax runs to the same receiver.

Ohhh man thanks, i guess im use to the good ol cable splitters. I wont have any signal loss from this seperator??? also, should it be plugged in right behind the actual reciever.

It is not a splitter and can not be used as one. It will only work with DPP lnb's and DPP switches (any other types will not work. It should remain as close to the receiver as possible and no, it will not reduce your signal strength. Again, it is NOT a splitter and does not work like one.

Also on the back of ther reciever there is a composite out for tv 2 only. I thought the output to the second tv was supposed to be through the distribution jack with a coax cable???

It can be either, the coax actually outputs tv1 and tv2 on the same line.
