Angry VIP622 vs VIP722 - a scam!

I have had a VIP622 for 12 months. About 10 months ago the HDMI output stopped working on the VIP622.
I contacted DISH Network and explained to the my problem, and they responded to me that it was a "software issue" and that they were "working on it" Over these past 10 months I have contacted DISH Network on a monthly basis to check the status of them "working on it" and every time I get the same response, that it is a known issue and that they are working on it.
I initially bought the VIP622 because of it's HDMI output capabilities, in fact, I chose DISH Network over DirectTV because of the HDMI capabilities of the VIP622.
Now here is what seems odd to me.
DISH Network just released the VIP722, which from all I can tell, and from what all my research points to is that the VIP722 is EXACTLY THE SAME as the VIP622 except for 3 areas.
1. It is black, not silver
2. It has a larger hard drive
3. The HDMI output works
It seems to me like DISH Network is trying to scam all the people who have VIP622s and have problems with them into purchasing a VIP722 and extending their contracts another 18 months.
What a ripoff!
I called them today to try and get them to replace my defective faulty, HDMI-less VIP622 with a functional VIP722 and they outright refused.
I asked them how they could sell me service and equipment that doesn't work and not fix it, and the representative I spoke with (Angela - RFH) repeated the same phrase to me repeatedly.
"We cannot give you the VIP722 for free, you have to pay $199 for it, and you have to extend your contract by 18 months".
I was on the phone for over an hour (20 minutes on hold initially to speak with some one) and I tried to explain to them every way possible that it was their duty to provide me with a functional piece of hardware, which is what I paid for! $250 for a VIP622 with HDMI capabilities.
Without HDMI, the receiver is useless to me.

Long story short, don't waste your time or money with DISH Network or the VIP722. They don't care about their customers and they sell non-functional equipment that they refuse to fix (unless you pay $199 and extend your contract by 18 months)
RIP OFF!

I've been with DISH for about a year now with zero problems. Except for the occasional signal flicker during storms which is rediculous but oh well. I love HD stations and they work great with my 622 (I believe I have that one).

Eucarya....1) Keep calling. 2) Remain pleasant 3)Leave DISH and tell them you're going to DTV or comcast.

I told them if they didn't replace my faulty 622 with a functional 622 or a 722 that I would leave and go to DirectTV, they didn't care.
They just kept repeating their canned phrase.

File suit in your local "small claims" court for the cost of the component that will not work and for 10 months of the HD service.

I'm guessing they will get you a working component several days before the scheduled court date.

Ive installed the 622 in hundreds of houses and this past week was the first time ive seen a problem with the hdmi output, but the customer was using an hdmi-dvi adapter. I am not aware of any software issue for the 622. I am aware the 211 had an hdmi sofware issue and it has since been fixed.

My advice to you....call dish...tell them your signal is not working and u need a tech to come look at it. The tech can replace the reciever for you at no charge usually. I did it for the customer even tho i felt it was his dvi adapter that was faulty.

HHMMMM! I have heard of this problem, from what i have taken in, was that some tv's dont work with the 622 HDMI. I have heard of blue/green screens when hdmi output dont work, chances are there isnt any fix for it, bet if you took that same connection to another tv it would work just fine. Call in a trouble call and have the tech try another 622 to see if it works, if it doess case closed, if it dont sorry. Component cable for you.

Thumbs down a resolution....sort of

i called them back, waited on hold 20 min. spoke with a TSR, got transfered to the wrong place waited on hold 20 minutes again. spoke with a TSR and got disconnected.
i called back, waited on hold for 20 min, spoke with a TSR, got transfered to a CSR who said i was in the wrong department and then transfered back into the TSR queue where i waited another 20 minutes.
Totally ridiculous. But it's like that every time I call.
In any case, I ended up with some new hire who I convinced to give me the VIP722 for free by selling it to me for $199, but then giving me the $100 rebate and $10 off my bill for 10 months.
I'm only out being in a contract for another 18 months, but in reality it's only another 12 because i still had 6 months left on my first one.
Then when the TSR went to run my CC she said it was only $119?
I'm totally confused, I repeatedly asked her that it was One Hundred and Nineteen dollars 1-1-9 and she said yes, because of the rebate.

So I guess I'll see what the charges are on my CC in the next few days, but the 722 should be in in 3-4 days and hopefully my HDMI issues will be a thing of the past and hopefully my service never goes out so I NEVER have to call DISH again.

I had the same problem after 4 months only with the 622. And I had the same initial response. But I kept calling and complaining (3 times the same day) and I told the person that it is not acceptable and that if he cannot help me he should find someone who would. And finally I got someone who was able to do replace my 622 with the faulty HDMI with one that works. This second one has been working for a year now with no HDMI problems (although I noticed recently in the hot summer an overheating problem which I cured with a cooling fan).

I think the main issue for you that you are asking for the newer 722. If you are willing to settle for a 622 that work you might be successful.

I noticed that the customer service at Dish is hit and miss. Almost every single time I got somebody who is not helpful and maybe donít even know what they are talking about but I either ask for somebody else or call again and eventually I get somebody who would. You might need to hold for a long time though.

I have 2 622's and they both work fine. Why did you wait so long to get it repaired? 10 mos later? Anytime I have a receiver go bad and it can't be fixed by rebooting etc or a tech checking it at my home, it has been replaced.
All you had to do was say it does not work send me a replacement. Not demand a different more expensive model.

My 622's HDMI output fails occasionally upon power up (months between failures). When this happens, i just reset the receiver (by holding down the power button for several seconds) to which it starts working again. Not much of a hassle- but i will consider calling Dish if it starts happening too often.

I have had a 622 and use HDMI to my Samsung and it works fine. When I did have a problem with the equipment (frequent signal loses), Dish sent me a new 622 (that wasnt the problem and I sent it back), a new diplexer (that wasnt the problem and I sent it back), and finally new LNBs ( that was the problem and I sent the faulty ones back). I have no problems dealing the the CSRs - that were more than happy to send me new equipment and pay the postage both ways and I was more than happy to install what they sent (pretty easy).

I read about this HDMI issue so much I think there is something wrong with my 622 because it does not have the problem.

The problem with HDMI is not the 622 or any other receiver, in my opinion it is the HDMI platform itself. It is a pain in the butt to change out a receiver if you experience problems but I've only been on this forum almost a year and in that short time it seems the posts about HDMI problems has dropped significantly. I have never had any problems but sympathize with those that have. I have tried component and I couldn't tell the difference. It sucks when something doesn't work as it should but at least we have a quality backup in case it does fail.
