HBO and Cinamax gone from Dish

Well it had to come, AT&T whom owns HBO, Cinamax, and also Direct TV has shut down service for HBO and Cinamax channels to Dish Network, this in retaliation for them (Dish) speaking out against the Direct TV/AT&T merger.

I find this extremely unfair to Dish customers but what can we do about it???

It's not Dish's fault, they had a right to speak up against the merger, a merger that in my opinion would be the start of a very big monopoly.

I think the FCC should step in.

Or find a way to boycott AT&T.

What do you all think?

Switch to D*. :)

It's their party and they can invite whomever they like. Is it "fair"? Yup! That's corporate business.

IMHO... start all the petitions and hope for the best. Money and subscribers is all that matters.

D* would love to see E* go bankrupt and sell the satellites to a bidder.

So much for the old Dish buying DirecTV deal?

Terry, if you have a Roku and subsequently Hulu on it, you can get HBO Now through them for $6 a month for 6 months, then it goes back to $15 a month, or you can drop it.

Don't like waiting this long for them to come back:banghead:

It maybe a very long wait...I may go the Roku route....At least Dish is crediting back the charges, I may be able to afford it.

We dropped Dish a long while back because of the charges. Then went back to Cox cable because they were much cheaper than Dish for the same channels. Now thanks to streaming on the Roku, we gave up cable (except for the internet).

If you sign up for Sling TV (sling.com) and pay 2 months worth of bill, they give you a free Roku. They carry 40 cable channels and have different costing plans for whichever channels you want. Take a look.

Sling TV is owned by Dish, they also have had HBO and Cinamax dropped.

I can get HBO direct, but the new customer start up package stops at 6 months then goes from 5$ a month to 20$ a month, that's more then I was paying for it through Dish.

DTV is bound a determined to be the only satellite TV service around, this is a step to being a monopoly, the FCC will not allow it.

That's why I mentioned earlier that we get HBO Now through Hulu. $6 per month for 6 months, then $15 per month after that.

We went with Sling because they have a cloud DVR. It holds 50 programs for 30 days, we can watch different shows at our leisure.

Cox is doing their best to get our business back. They just offered me 140 channels and all the movie channels for $39 per month for a year. I called them on it and they just tried to upsell me for more garbage we don't want or need.

They persist in trying to give me a landline for "free" as part of a bundle. When I say I haven't had a landline since 1994 when I got my first cell phone then they start with, "But..." I have a phone in my hand, why do I want another phone that I have to get up and walk across the house for?!?

purplerain 11-25-2018 08:52 AM

Seems by bill went from 150 to 95 since the drop

purplerain 01-07-2019 07:30 AM

Going on 9 weeks :banghead:

And I don't think they will be back....

Now a question...Did AT&T restrict all other competitors from receiving HBO and Cinamax or just dish??

If not then this is just a retaliatory move on their part...Everyone missing these channels should start a boycott on AT&T, and do some negative blogs and posts all over the web on this.

If they never come back, that would seem like an almost impossible thought:(

If I switch, where do I go....that's my problem.

Terryl3 01-08-2019 10:42 AM

You can get HBO online, but viewing it on a small screen like a PC/MAC or laptop is an eye strain.

Some streaming sticks offer it at at around 19 duckets a month.

purplerain 01-27-2019 01:28 PM

3 months and counting...:(

Able to get it other ways, but this is brutal
