Default External Hard Drive Compatabilty II

Purchased an external hard drive to copy events from a failing VIP 722K. I would also like to increase capacity on a 625 Duo DVR, but I'm told the same external hard drive that I have for the 722, is not compatible with the 625.
My question is: If this is, in fact, true, is there an external hard drive that will work with a 625? Thks

100% correct. 625 receivers cannot make use of EHD's.

Thanks. I wonder why, isn't the basic difference that one is HD and the other isn't??

The 625 is a much older receiver, it was when Dish switched HD from mpeg2 to mpeg4 that they initiated the EHD.

Not sure if I'm phrasing this correctly, but is there a newer replacement for the standard def 625, which could use an ehd??

NO, external hard drives are only usable on VIP or XIP receivers sucha se the 211, 411, 621, 622, 722 and Hopper.

If you go to the HD ViP 722/722K then you would have transfer capability.

ALL standard definition receivers are too primitive (no on board hardware or software) to use an EHD. they were built with USB 1.1 ports that are so slow that they would transfer video at near playback speeds if the proper accessory hardware was present - but it is not.

VIP and XIP receivers have USB 2.0 ports that can transfer a 1 hour HD program in about 10 minutes, movies in about 20-30 minutes maybe less.

I think you mean 612, not 621.
