Default No Device Attached

After using my external Hard drive for over 5 years now, I am now getting error message #860 that says "There is no multimedia device connected to the USB port."

The last time that I archived something was 2 or 3 weeks ago. Dish tells me there is no trouble shooting external hard drives. Any suggestions to what happened here?

Unplug the external drive from the receiver and reboot the receiver and the external drive (unplug from the outlet and wait one minute to plug back in). After the receiver comes back up that you can watch a channel plug the USB cable back in.

I completely agree with the above post. Normally that brings it back, if it doesn't try using the other USB port on the receiver (depending on the model, there may be another on the front)

I've tried using the other USB port (front) and unplugging it and rebooting as discussed. Nothing seems to work. I guess the Hard Drive just died. I'll buy a new one soon and see if it will read it but I will lose all of my recorded shows & movies.

I just got a new USB cord and swapped them out but it still gives me the "no device connected" message. Good thought.
