Thumbs down Why is there no Fox Sports Detroit Plus HD

Why is Fox Sports Detroit Plus the only overflow feed on the entire Fox Sports Net system that's NOT in HD?

Hey TomCat. Have you heard about the economy in Detroit? While you watch your big screen HD TV made in Asia, what kind of iron do you have parked in your driveway? Probably a rice burner.

I suspect that DTV is losing customers in the Detroit area who no longer can afford to pay for satellite TV, let alone a new HD receiver.

WTF is a rice burner?

What does that have to do with being it in Detroit? Its owned by News Corporation, the largest, most successful media conglomerate in the world! By the way, the station's base isn't actually in the city of Detroit, its in Southfield, an upper class suburb, and it serves the entire state of Michigan, not just the Detroit market, and with the right packages, the entire country.

By the way I live in Michigan and I'm on SSDI and I have an HDTV. Go figure...

I don't see what having a rice burner has to do with any HD channels.

Rice burner is slang for a Japanese car.. That is an older term from the 80's and 90's I think..

My guess is that since the Lions went 0-16 last season, Fox Sports got the hell outta there in a hurry...

I have an American car. I'd never buy foreign.

Fox Sports Detroit hasn't even covered the Lions since 2007. Its due to the new long term exclusive carriage deal with the Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings they made in March 2008, so too many conflicts can't occur. It has nothing to do with how bad the Lions were last season.

I know the Cuddly Kittins are carried by the NFL networks and not FOX Sports Detroit. It was just a little messin with ya.. Hence the .. If they still carry the Raiders on the NFL networks, I think by law they have to carry the Lions too.

Ok. I thought you were one of those people that will never let the Lions live down 0-16. A Raiders fan could understand though. Its not a law, but its in their contract that they have to produce every non-national game in which the visitor is an NFC team...

Actually certain FOX OTA in Michigan stations didn't carry many Lions game last year either, due to the stupid blackout rules.

Today's Tiger's game is being broadcast in HD on Extra Innings by a Detroit Sports channel. Don't know if it's Fox, but it IS in HD.

Hey TomCat...

While I disagree with over 90% of the complaints you rant about daily, I take back the "rice burner" comment. Glad to hear that you are support Detroit Iron.

All 4 of the cars I've owned are GM. I'd never buy anything else.

Its ok to disagree with me, but the personal attacks are uncalled for. I'm not some rich snob. I'm not even employed.

TomCat, Off topic, but since you're a Tiger fan; any inside news on who might be doing the closer duties in Detroit in the near future? I was reading that Ryan Perry might get the nod.

Fernando Rodney is currently. Perry could get it. Brandon Lyon wants the job too.

Very sad news just hit the wire. This really sucks! He was a rare individual indeed. R.I.P. Mark.

Mark “the Bird” Fidrych dies at 54

By HOWARD ULMAN, AP Sports Writer 3 minutes ago

BOSTON (AP)—Former All-Star pitcher Mark “the Bird” Fidrych was found dead Monday in an apparent accident at his farm. He was 54.

Worcester County district attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. saids a family friend found Fidrych about 2:30 p.m. Monday beneath a pickup truck at his Northborough, Mass., farm. He appeared to be working on the truck, Early said.

The colorful right-hander was the American League rookie of the year in 1976 when he went 19-9 with a 2.34 ERA. He spent all five of his major league seasons with the Detroit Tigers, compiling a 29-19 record and a 3.10 ERA.

His career was cut short by injuries.

Fidrych attempted a comeback in 1983 with the Boston Red Sox and went to their Triple A team in Pawtucket, R.I. But he never pitched in the majors after 1980 and retired in 1983.

The Worcester, Mass., native later owned a trucking business.

Fidrych acquired the nickname “the Bird” because of his resemblance to the Big Bird character on the Sesame Street television show. During games, he would bend down and groom the mound with his hands, appear to talk to the baseball and slap high fives with teammates in the middle of the diamond.

He started the 1976 All-Star game after opening the season with seven wins in eight decisions. He finished that season with 24 complete games.

But he tore knee cartilage during spring training the following year and was placed on the disabled list until May 24. He sustained a shoulder injury in July 1977 and ended up pitching in just 58 games during his major league career.

State police detectives are investigating the circumstances of his death, Early said.
