Default Switching HD satellite question

I am getting ready to switch to HD programming with my new TV. I will need to get a HD DVR. I currently have 2 small dishes as required to receive my local channels. When I call in for my upgrade will they install a new 5 LNB Dish? If they don't offer the 5 LNB dish can I request one at no charge? I want to make sure I will be able to get my local channels (not in HD) as well as all of the current HD programming as well as the new HD programing coming with the new D11 satellite.

Thanks in advanced for this HD newby!

If you signup for HD, a 5-lnb (Slimline) dish will need to be installed. They will replace your main dish, and leave the local channel dish in place. The installer should add a Zinwell WB68 multiswitch, which will combine the signals from the 2 dishes. Make sure the installer knows you still need the 2nd dish for SD locals.

Thanks! That is the information I needed!! I will make sure the installer knows what is going on. My wife will kill me if we don't have the locals. We live in the middle of no where and locals OTA are almost impossible.

I get my locals, HD and SD, and everything else through my 5LNB Slimline.

If you get your SD locals on 99, 101, 103, or 119, you can use the Slimline for everything. If you are like the OP and get your SD locals on 72.5, you still need a second dish.

Default Hooked Up

Ok so I am hooked up now. When the installer got here all he had was the HD-DVR, no slimeline 5 lnb dish. I asked him if he had one for my install and he said no. That is great because I specifically told D* that all I have right now is the 2 small dishes and that I would need the new 5lnb to receive the HD content. The call center guy said not a problem all of the upgrade orders go with a new 5lnb dish just in case the customer doesn't currently have one.

Well at least I got a good installer!! He made a few calls and used a 5lnb dish for his next install on my house. So I got hooked up. He was going to pick up another dish from a another tech and go to his next install.

Thanks for all the help!
