Then during the download and update, I watched channel after channel come up "not available at this level" or words to that effect. ESPNHD actually did appear for a while, then got yanked "live" before my eyes. Ten HD channels including ESPNHDx2 for $10 is one thing; more like twelve but not including ESPNHD at all for what amounts to $23 is quite another and that is the real world outcome they don't tell you about.
Predatory business practice?

Are you only full of cliche's or can you come up with your own bumper sticker slogans?

because the family plan has no channels to begin with lol

No, it is because Direct is a predator and they are praying on innocent pray like himself. He is a victim of the satellite industry forcing him to do what he doesn't want to do. He has no other options and is unable to protect himself from such vicious predators.

The insane quote is from I think Return of the Archons, Star Trek, 1966. I used it a couple of times but it got pasted over and over such that some people thought I was beating it to death. And then I was accused of using "chiche's" [sic] in the form of "predatory business practice" which the last time I checked is a legally defined term that includes bait and switch among other time honored capitalist tools for performing walletectomies on the middle class. My favorite attack was from the "if you're so smart why aren't you rich camp" which only proves that the reptilian brain can take over the gray matter in such a way as to materially enrich a predator in disproportion to his IQ. None of this really matters except that here and there amidst the sound and fury were tiny voices vindicating my original position. To you, I say thank you for affirming that DirecTV among others gets rich lying to people. I am not the first or last person they will chew up and spit out. But if I leave a bad taste however fleeting, I have succeeded. And if I earned epithets of contempt from the semi-literates among you, it was worth getting up this morning. --Tom H

Dude, if you have the family package, you really shouldn't have been getting ESPNHD in the first place. Quit being cheap and at least upgrade to the base package, Choice. $30 a month isn't going to make any company bend over backwards to please you. DirecTV is in the business of making money. Stop being a crybaby, and if times are that tough for you, sell your HDTV for firewood so you can heat your home this winter.

OK Ralph Nader...

You have other choices including the choice to not have Direct at all. Nobody is praying on you. If you are pray, then that is your fault.

Choice is only $20 more a month (IF they don't give you any kind of deal to upgrade) for like an additional 100 channels more importantly an extra like 30 HD channels (dont have the patience to count them all.) If Direct's packages don't fit your needs then leave and quit complaining that a possible $60/month bill for over 150 channels and high definition programming is "raping your wallet" then like I said maybe you should stop SMOKING pot and start SELLING it. The 21st century is here and inflation is real, get used to it or call cable. No one is gonna give you the keys to a Cadillac when you're paying for a Geo.

WTF dude?

The more you post, the more more you come off as a whiny little bitch.

You're a friggin cheap ass who feels like D* should not profit.

What the hell do you think they are in business for, free hand outs?

Let's face it, it they were not AT LEAST somewhat competitive, they would not be the no. 1 sat. provider. They would have eventually faded away, and Dish would take over as no. 1. Cry if you must, but just try to find better.

They also have some awesome customer service, is that worth anything to you?

I'm a $100.00+/month sub., so I've shopped around, and believe me when I tell you that you get more bang for your buck with D*

Instead of posting your electronic tears here, and trying to justify them with even more ignorance, do as the others say and go to cable or somewhere else, you DO have options.

Do yourself a favor, stop posting on this subject, you're only making yourself look worse each time.

And no, I'm not going to read your BLOG, especially after reading your crap-ola here. I have my own, and read plenty of others written by people with common sense. So I choose not to go there, just as you should choose not to have D* as your provider.

If your BLOG is where you vent, then go vent there to the people who actually give a crap.

I kind of feel for this guy, it sounds like he had a gradfathered plan and they didn't tell him upfront that upgrading would cause him to lose some channels he once had.

The same thing applies to cell phones. With verizon wireless, text messaging costs $10 per month for the unlimited. Wifey gets her unlimited text for FREE. She has the same plan for about 8 years. I have to pay the $10 for my texting. However, her plan is not that great but she deals with it, because, if she upgrades her plan, she will lose her free text messaging.

Same thing with this guy, he has prob had his family plan for a long time, not realizing that the new family plan comes with less channels. So, if he uprgrades, he will lose some channels that he once had.

I would not blame DTV though, if anything I would be grateful you have been allowed to keep your old plan, grandfathered in, for as long as you have. Eventually, if you want more HD channels, you are going to have to except that your old plan is just that, old. They no longer offer that plan with those channels. Inflation pushes prices up on everything. You will have to pay more but you will also get more in return.

Just to note, depending on where he lives, he may not have a choice.

I currently live inside of a town, I have TWC and RoadRunner for internet.

In December, I am moving to the country. There is no cable providers of anykind. No cable interent, No DSL.

The ONLY CHOICE is DirectTV for television. Even Dishnetwork is spotty in the area.

As for internet, I can either go with Dial-up at only 26k or get WildBlue.

DTV and WildBlue are the only choices at all. There is nothing else. I am going with these two as my only other option is nothing at all.

I guess I could go with Dial up at 26k and throw an antenna on the roof and get two channels.

Not that this is this guys situation, but in many places there is no choice of providers. Also, the town I live in, TWC is the only choice, there is no DSL or comcast or anything like that. You either take TWC or you get a Dish. We do not have the luxury of choices like the big cities do.
