Unhappy Loss of Audio on All HD Channels

Last night we lost audio on all OTA HD & Satellite HD channels.

After working my way up through DTV's Tech Support ladder the problem was escalated to an advanced Tech but still with no resolution. The advanced Tech said that they agree my AV setup is properly configured and as such DTV will research the problem and call me back within the next 24 to 48 hours.

Notes of Interest
  • When I switch my HR20-700 Dolby Digital Audio setup from ON to OFF we regain audio, albeit PCM, on the HD channels.
  • I have reset the HR20, checked all cables and software configurations.
  • AV is transmitted through an HDMI running from my HR20 to my Denon AVR then an HDMI from the Denon to the TV.
  • There is one funny coincidence. Last night we were watching an HD broadcast in DD and I switched my AVR to 5 Channel Stereo.
  • I confirmed that the problem is not within our HR20-700 by disconnecting the HR20, reconnecting our H20 then tuning to an HD channel where upon there was no audio.

Thanks in advance for your help and expertise.

Your suggestions and comments will be greatly appreciated.

What happens if you connect an optical audio cable from the HR20 to an optical input on the Denon?

How can it be anything other than a receiver or cable issue? It's not clear if you used the same HDMI cable for the HR20 as the H20. If you're receiving PCM audio instead of DD, it sounds like your receiver isn't interpreting the signals properly. Did you try connecting an optical (toslink) cable instead of HDMI? That should rule out D* as the cause.
