Default Where are the HD pgms on 282 APLHD ??

HR20-700 - I decided to watch a recently recorded "Meerkat Manor" tonight, and saw that it was SD... AND, it came up with a banner at the front of the show saying "also available in HD". So, I thought that maybe my old recording list was stuck on the SD channel somehow, so I started poking around. I enabled both 282 and 282HD so they both show up in my channel listings (I had turned off the regular 282 a couple of days ago). It turns out that both APL and APLHD are the same for as far as my pgm listing goes out. No HD programs in sight. I GET the programs in APLHD, but they are all SD.

Whazzup with this? All my other new channels seem to be broadcasting in HD, so is this just a problem with the programmers at Animal Planet?

I looked and didn't see a discussion on this, so thought I'd start one. Hope I haven't overlooked it... If so, then forgive this new thread.

My recordings for Meerkat Manor are in HD. I did goof on a few series links though and selected the SD channel when I thought I was selecting HD. Just remember the HD feed will always be the first channel in the list when you are setting up SL's (I'm assuming you are recording through a SL).

Thanks - I guess you were right. The thing that confused me is that the program guide has NO "HD" showing up on any programs. So, I thought HD wasn't being shown... anyway, I got rid of the plain old 282 and even tho it doesn't show "HD" in the guide (except for the channel name), the program I'm watching right now "Ghost Cat" is coming down in 720p, and promos for Meerkat have been in HD also. So, again, thanks.

I am not impressed with the HD quality of Animal Planet's "Blue Planet"... on my XBR2 - 52" Sony, it's somewhere between SD and HD (as seen on other HD channels)... , leaning toward SD. Same with Meerkat Manor - They've got a soft look - none of the "snap" of Discovery Channel, or even my local HD channels. Maybe the Discovery channel has just spoiled me

HA! I watched Ghost Cat too. Never would have in a million years in SD.

Since the new channels launched I've managed to catch at least one true HD program (16:9 HD recording) on every one of the channels, including Versus this morning, and they all looked great, so I would have to say it is the source material that looks bad 100% of the time, not any of the channels HD transmissions. btw, anyone notice todays NHL opener was in 4:3? Like I said above, I saw a 16:9 show on hunting earlier today on that channel. Versus really sucks.
