Default Local games in HD??

I was told by my lady friend at D* to keep an eye out because D* was supposed to begin broadcasting some of the Regional Networks in HD for those with the H20 and 5lnb Dish?? Supposedly it's only the MLB games right now and only in the local areas, something about the spot beam. The way she described it, I live in Idaho but the Mariners are my home team, Seattle would get the FSN Northwest Mariners games in HD, but I won't because I'm outside of the spot beam. I have the HR10-250, but am eagerly awaiting the release of the new HD-DVR(supposedly by Sept), but I don't want to try that if it isn't going to give me my Mariners or Dawgs games in HD. Anyone in the New York, Seattle, LA, Boston area noticed that yet??? Might be more cities, but I think it's only in the ones that have Hd locals right now AND have a MLB team tooooo
Thanks

Not until all the HD RSN's are on DTV10/11 sometime in 2007/8.

The Mariners have the largest franchise area (in sq. miles) of any (ANY) pro sports/pro baseball team. Includes Montana, Idaho, ect. Teams like the Yankee's and Red Sox have areas one can drive across in a couple of hours!

DTV has started using capacity on the Ka spotbeams to carry the HD RSN's into the primary area, but even though the Spaceway sats aren't 'spot beams' in the typical way that DTV4S and the like are; the beams are not formed by a mechanical antenna shape, but by synthetic apature which allows the RF to be targeted over specific areas. This was the basic design of the sat, to provide 2-way data (internet), and was modified somewhat to provide the HD video bitstream to give DTV a leg up on (and a year ahead of) the 10/11 sats.

Now, they do have the 'capability' to spread that beam carrying the games pretty wide, but wether they do so or not, who knows.

I sent a E-mail to FSN Bayarea asking if they have worked out any deal with Direct for HD broadcasts, and this was the reply I recieved from them.

"DirecTV is adding FSN HD to it's line up in the greater San Francisco Area shortly and already may have on channel 95 or 96. They cannot offer our HD games outside of the San Francisco DMA at this point"

SWEEEET!

Default Now In Detroit In Our Year

Called D* this afternoon to inquire about Fox Sports Detroit possibly carrying in Detroit Tiger games in HD. The response was not encouraging. The operator could barely speak English, let alone pronounce "high definition." After several attempts to explain the product (HD), the team (Tigers), etc, it was obvious that both were outside her area of training. I requested transfer to a supervisor who was not much more informed.

So, I'll assume that there will be no Tigers in HD unless one of the major networks picks it up. Oh well...

News Flash:
D* will have FSN Detroit when it debuts HDTV on 7/14, with a Detroit Tigers home game vs. Kansas City.

Yes, this is all true. DTV has already introduced spot beam HD sports in select markets already.

This sort of sucks for people who are fans of other teams... I guess I will never get my Sox in HD at this rate, but thank god I can see 6 yankee games a week on 95.

UGH.

This is another step forward though. I don't think Dish has introduced this yet.

It's good for me but how come the Yankees are going to be shown nationally? Is this a fact, all Yankee games will be shown on 95?

Not all, but I got 4 this week so far alone. The entire Yankees/Indians series.

IT's really annoying when I get that game on ESPN HD and on 95. U'd think DTV can figure that out and start showing different games on 95 when the same game is on 72 or 73.

Default Great About The Tigers... Why Didn't D* Know?

I guess it's difficult for the average D* operator to know all of the options available to customers, by market. Had I not checked here, I never would have known about FOX Sports Detroit in HD starting 7/14. It wasn't in our last invoice.

Like a lot of businesses, internal communications and training are a challenge. Somehow, they've got to start tring harder or working smarter.

Has this been confirmed by D* ?
Or are we all gonna hope it comes true ?
Sounds alot like the NESN rumor from several weeks ago.

it's true. I've read on other boards that spot beaning HD sports stations has already started in some markets.

They are coming in on the 90's range, and you only see them if you are in that market. I'll probably start seeing the Indians and/or Reds in the next month or so, I'd imagine.

If you have the 5LNB dish and Ka/Mpeg4 reciever, you would now see that ch. 96 is active in the PacNW, and the Mariners/Detroit game tomorrow (Sat/Jul8) is on the schedule. The only transponder/freq. active so far is 25/at99deg/network11; there is a 'DTV' banner up on 96, and only two Seattle HD stations are on the sat. It would be interesting to see how wide the 'beam' is on this, I get a minimum of 89 to as high as 97 sig. strength, depending on the weather (or maybe they're 'tweaking' the power output), some 35-40 miles due north of the Space Needle. How many stations they can squeeze into one transponder is a good question, we'll have to wait until somewhere in the country more than the 'basic' four 'networks' are carried.

I asked that question a while back and got all kinds of nonspecific answers, not directly to which Ka/Mpeg4 channels, unfortunately.

I was just referring to FSN HD Detroit. I don't know about all the other RSN's.

That poses another question, Currently I have FSN Ohio listed as my local FSN, and pay extra for FSN Detroit... (although I am 500 ft from the michigan line, and 3 hours from Columbus FSN Ohio) I can only HOPE that D* will give me the FSN D HD feed, or maybe it will be a spot beam thing, I am well inside of that.... More than likely theey will give me FSN Ohio in HD and that will really p*ss me ...
I tried desperatly for them to give me FSN, now I will have to plead my case again for the HD feed.

I wish there was a number for FSN D that I could call and talk toi these guy's, I know it's not FSN d's design.

any thoughts ?
