Default HR10-250 OTA Signal Reception Problems

For those of you not in close proximity to a metropolitan area I thought I'd share my experience with the HR10-250. The bottom line is that the over the air receiver is pretty weak.

I've had a Sony HD-300 for some time and just bought the HR10-250 for my living room (gotta have that TIVO). It will simply not lock in to nearly as many digital signals as the Sony. Even the signals I can receive I lose every time I rotate my antenna. I almost have to have the antenna 90 degrees in the wrong direction before the Sony starts to lose the signal.

No, it's not different signal strengths to the two. I've checked them with a signal strength meter and they're identical. No, I don't have a lemmon. DirecTV has sent me two new replacements and they perform just as badly as the original.

Unfortunately, I'm hooked on TIVO so I've got to keep this $1,000 clunker. But for those of you in the outlying areas who aren't hooked yet or can't afford to have a backup HD receiver, BEWARE.

Default HR10-250 OTA Signal Reception Problems

I have had the same reception problems with the HR10-250 OTA receiver. I have tried three machines at this point and not one of them will receive a single off air digital signal. I have a Toshiba DST3000, a DST3100, and a Sony plasma set with a built in HD tuner, all of which receive all the network OTA digital signals just fine. The HR10-250 needs to go back to the drawing board.

I don't know how remote you are, but I can get all of the Los Angeles DT channels on my HR10-250. I am about 35 miles from the transmitters, and all I have for an antenna is an old UHF BBQ grill type in my attic. What knid of antenna do you have?
