Default OTA HD Reception in Minneapolis metro area

I am 25 miles from the local transmission towers in a heavily wooded area. To top it off the TV is in the basement. I bought the Zenith "Silver Sensor "set top antenna yesterday and voila! All the local HD stations are now available. If you haven't tried out this OTA antenna, try it now.....

laser, very good info. What HD channels do you pick up? Do you have to move the antenna around or is it a multi directional.

I'm ticked....FOX HD is broadcasting my Steelers against the Eagles right now, but since my Comcast DIGI doesn't have a fox hd channel I'm left watching a poor 4:3 480 view. Grrrrrr.

I'm in Lino Lakes, and I have the Winegard antenna mounted over top of my Sat dish, and I have 90%+ signal on all the off air HD channels. However I do notice some static in the sound every now and then, but I'm not convinced its from bad reception, but who knows. The CBS Chan 4 feed looked awesome for the 3 oclock game, but not so good for the Chiefs/TB. The Fox feed of the Eagles/Steelers game rocked.

I pick up all the networks local feeds: NBC,CBS,ABC and, PBS. I have the Sunday Ticket and have been frustrated that the game I want to watch is on the local Fox affiliate (in SD rather than HD). Now I can swith over to the local affiliates and still get the game I want in HD!

The indoor antenna seems to be directional. However, all our transmission towers are in the same general area. I just turn on the signal measure mode on my Hughes HD reciever and move the antenna around until I get a 90% signal.

That's amazing, transmitters are 25 miles away and you can pull the signals in via a set-top antenna in your basement! Are the HD channels in your area VHF, UHF or a combination of both? What receiver are you using; a set-top box or does your TV have its own receiver?

I have the Hughes HTL-HD receiver. The channels are UHF, I believe (frequency numbers are above 13). Got to see my first Monday Night football broadcast in HD last night. I used the antennaweb.org web site for information on where to point the antenna on top of the TV. The signal is as strong as the feed from the dish!!

I suggest you try the Silver Sensor if you haven't got an OTA HD antenna yet. I am very impressed also with the results...

Yes, the Digital locals have to be different than the analog ones. In some cases the local affiliates now show as many as four different choices for each network, in the programing guide!
