Default Noob questions

Im not 100% noob, but im still not getting the whole thing about mpeg4. i got directv 2 years ago with the hd package. and right now my hd boxs its made by huges. to get the new locals for the hartford connecicut market in the spring will i need to upgrade to the mpeg4 box and get a new dish to get the locals? and if i have to upgrade how much will it be?

IF you wait till after March 1st you can rent the equipment, and see if you like it ...If not send it back

this way your not out the cost of new equipment

Unless leasing comes with a contract, which the information released to this point says there is a contract. It also shows the same upfront prices we are having to pay now. Whether D* actually goes with that model is anyone's guess.

To get your locals in HD you will need a new receiver and dish. You will be able to get your locals in SD with your current setup untill some time in the future. Probably some time after D* has converted all locals to HD the SD locals will be discontinued. Many on this forum say that if you can get the HD signal with an OTA, that the PQ is better.

If D* has HD locals in your area, the upgrade should only be around 14.95, but you need to check that out when you order the new setup from D*.
