Default Unable to record NFL game in MY HOME

Here's the situation. Last week I setup the Seattle Seahawk game to record in my own home. When we returned home later that day, the game DIDN'T get record!!! I though maybe I screwed something up.

This week I had the Seahawk-Raider game set to record. We got back home around halftime and cranked the set up to watch the ENTIRE game. That was not to be. Instead we were only able to watch live action starting with the 2nd half of the game.

I then looked at the onscreen guide and it show the red recording circle with a line slashed throught it (I assume to tell me it wasn't recording).

After the game, I called DTV to find out what was going on. I got a tech from maybe Asia who seemed to have a good command of English. He said the NFL was restricting DTV from supporting recording of NFL games. First time I ever heard of this? Anyone else experiencing this.

Default Strange...

More details to the above post. The past 2 Sundays (Oct 7th and 14th) I was unable to record the Seahawks game on FOX's local station in the Seattle area. The game appeared to be recording, but there was no recording available to view.

Later on the 14th, I was able to record the SNF game on NBC. Some guy at Directv told me some networks restrict the recording of NFL games. Sounds like total BS to me. Also a friend in another home (Directv subscriber) was also able to record the SNF game above.

With the reported drop in NFL viewship, I doubt the NFL would restrict home recording of NFL games.

My wife was totally pissed today when her Seashawks game DIDN'T record.

I recorded those games with no trouble whatsoever. And when I set them up to record I also added 60 minutes because we all know sporting events don't end on time.

I live near Port Angeles, WA so I'm not in the Seattle metro area but my DirecTV "local" channels are from Seattle.

Perhaps you can't record the Seahawks because you do live in the Seattle metro area. I really don't know.

The 2 games that didn't record were set to record multiple future games. Next week is the bye week so I won't be able to tell if setting up for a single record only, corrects the problem.

As I said in the original post above, I was able to record other NFL games on other networks. I seriously doubt that FOX has the ability to restrict recordings or any reason to do so other than to force you to watch their commericals.

I post the results of my future recording of the next game on the 28th. We'll be on a trip that day, returning on the 30. My wife will be PISSED if the game doesn't record.

Just a thought...
Since D* has spot beams for local programming, they may be capable to disable recording of local (based on your home/subscribed address) event programs. Especially "home games".

An interesting idea, but I'm only about 20 miles from Seattle and I have recorded NFL games on ABC, NBC, CBS and ESPN.

The failure is FOX. Seahawks have a bye next week so the next "test" will be on the 28th.

Record any game this week that's on FOX as a test. If it works it's not FOX blocking all NFL games. The following week, record the Seahawks game on FOX and see what happens.

All the local TV stations, regional or national networks, cable networks and satellite networks that carry any NFL Pro football game have to sign a contract with that team and the NFL to broadcast the games, this contract has a clause that allows the local team to block (or blackout) any game that may be locally broadcast, this due to low attendance at the stadium.

They want people in the seats at the home game and not watching the game at home or recording it for later viewing, it's all a matter of money.

If attendance is up you get the game, if not you get reruns or a movie.

Now some cable and satellite programming suppliers have sports game packages that you pay extra for, this extra fee can cover the local NFL game, if your a subscriber to this extra package you get the game, (for a price) if not your watching Mary Poppins.

Good points and agree.

It's just that the OP is specific about "recording" from D*.

The game this past weekend did record normally. Seahawks-Chargers. With the Seahawk loss, maybe it would have been better if it hadn't!

One interest thing though was my wife was watching the delayed Seahawk game late and I had the SNF game recording (New England-Green Bay). However, I was not able to watch that ongoing game until the earlier Seahawk game finished.

I assume there is a restriction from viewing 2 recorded games at the same time.

It was a home game.

I'm thinking of dumping DTV and going back to Dish. Kinda fed up with the long going dispute (DTV-Pac12). What's it been now? 6 years or more. Keeping getting the "ANY day now, we'll have the Pac12".

While I'm not totally sure, I thing Dish's ability to access their system while out of my area (iPad, iPhone, computer) is much better than DTV's system. Countless times, I get the "access not available", check my DVR. When I'm on the road, I CAN'T check my DVR. Some BS about being on the same WiFi as my home DTV box.

Oh well... looks like the problem you had back in Oct. has not reoccurred. Must have been a glitch.
