Default Code 771 blues

Besides my having to reboot 3 or 4 times each day starting this week, in an additional twist I get another code 771 signal loss around 10pm each night where rebooting doesn’t help. Of course, everything is back on line by morning. I finally called DTV and they’re coming out on Monday to resolve the problem. Has anyone else had this difficulty?

I had an issue two weeks ago when my middle stepson was visiting and watching a football game. Apparently our HR24 rebooted spontaneously twice in an hour and between reboots exhibited 771 codes intermittently. Weather at the time was severe clear so to speak. I was out of town so I did not see it. He thought it might have been a power blink but nothing else in the house, clocks for example, indicated that. Weird but no problems since...

Thanks for the comments. Right on schedule, code 771 shut us down last night at 10pm. I hope the DTV technician can solve the problem when he comes out on Monday.

Well, the DTV tech came yesterday and found some wiring difficulties and a bad device that he corrected. Last night there were no 771 codes.

The problem, as it turns out is that I asked for a receiver upgrade to an HR 54 which was granted. But I didn’t know at the time that the HR54 no longer has a phone jack, meaning I can no longer see caller ID screens or the call log. I like that feature because it helps ward off telemarketing calls and allows me to quickly see who’s calling. It’s also great for calling back those callers where I do not have the number. I know my handsets have this information, but the on-screen method is much easier to use. At any rate, I have a call into the installer to see if he can replace the HR54 with another HR44.

How about getting a wireless phone hand set and put it next to your chair -I would keep the hr54 -but that's just me.
