Default Live 4K on DTV?

Last year I bought a LG 4K tv. It streams 4K content great from Amazon Prime, NetFlix and youtube. Not so much from DTV. Their prerecorded 4K shows work fine from DTV. However, their live 4K content is hard to connect to with my receiver. During the Olympics, it took several attempts to tune into their live content.

This past Saturday I was excited about watching the Notre Dame game in 4K. However, several attempts failed to connect. When there is a failure, my screen goes BLACK and when this happens, it takes several attempts to disconnet from their channel 4K channel 106 even though there is no signal.

Wondering if my LG receiver is just not up to the task or is this a problem with their satillite receiver? Did ANYONE see this game in 4K? It's supposed to be a weekly 4K game for the rest of the season.

Call me disappointed. DTV's supposedly new 4K service is the main reason I switched to DTV in August even though I had to say goodbye to Dish's Pac-12 network service.

DirecTVís 2016 Notre Dame College Football Telecasts In 4K

Date Game Time

Sept. 10 Nevada-Notre Dame 3:30 pm

Sept. 17 Michigan State-Notre Dame 7:30 pm

Sept. 24 Duke-Notre Dame 3:30 pm

Oct. 15 Stanford-Notre Dame 7:30 pm

Oct. 29 Miami-Notre Dame 3:30 pm

Nov. 19 Virginia Tech-Notre Dame 3:30 pm

Channel 106 takes some patience at times. A few times I have had to keep changing channel back and forth between 106 and another channel before 106 finally loaded. I sometimes question the quality of the DirecTV box.

When this happens to me, my LG seems "locked" on 106. I certainly can't quickly change to another channel. The set is almost like it's trying to change gears, but just can't make the upshift. I'm with you in that I think it's the box. I found the same thing to be true with the Olympics on 106, but there I was able to get 106 up. PITA! Wish DTV could come up with an alternate method like direct streaming. I do have my box plumbed to a 100 Mbs ethernet cable.

Wondering how the ND game is televised? NBC does it in HD. Do you think NBC is using 4k cameras for the telecast and making it available to DTV in 4K? I wasn't too impressed with the Olympic 4K output. It was mostly gymnastics with long shots (wide angle). When there was action, it seems like there were a few frame skips.

I'm much more impressed by outputs from Amazon, NetFlix and youtube, all via my plumbed ethernet directly into my LG 4k.

You cant really compare apples to oranges. Direct has the only live 4k, and you are comparing Netflix to live....

Being the only provider of a brand new technology there might be some gremlins. I have had zero issues with downloaded 4k, which would compare to netflix or amazon.

DTV may have the only live 4K, but isn't Netflix/Amazon/Youtube much like live in that it's streams in real time verses being download first.

Or are you saying 4K from a satillite is faster than steaming from NetFlix, etc?

GREAT question. Does downloaded 4k content come via the internet or directly from a DTV "bird"? And yes, it does seem seamless although it takes a while to download.

When you say "live", I assume you mean directly from a DTV satellite without spooling.

I have my DTV box plumbed into my 100Mbs service although the max a speed checker clocked was around 80Mbs. I get all my 4k/UHD (NetFlix, Amazon and youtube) directly down my ethernet connection and it's ALL streaming and seamless WITHOUT predownloadingl
